I was thinking of watching Sinister tonight on Netflix, as a lot of reviews on here compare it to Insidious without the crap ending........

However I read some reviews on this and it seems to center on snuff type films.....

I have a fairly strong stomach but dont know if I can 'go there' if its particularly gratutious!

Is it worth watching?

I really enjoyed it and found it very spooky. The 'murder films' are disturbing, but they are not gory or gratuitous. There are jumpy moments, but I can't recall any bloody, slasher type stuff (which I personally could not have stomached).

It's an unsettling, mean spirited film. I don't recall seeing any violence onscreen (other than the scenes where the guy is watching some 8mm home films).

Is it good? Well that's a matter of opinion. I didn't like it but others did and it did get ok reviews for the most part. Use your own judgement. You can always turn it off if you find it uncomfortable to watch.

Cheers for that folks. Think I will give it a whirl......strangely, although I love a good horror and obviously this at times by its very nature means watching strong stuff, I just cant do the torture porn stuff!

I did think Insidious had genuinely scary moments until half way through and then turned into a big steaming pile of poo.....just feel like being scared tonight lol

I enjoyed it, I think it's a cut above Insidious, though the ending, for me, is still not without it's issue. Ethan Hawke is really excellent.

Nothing at all like that. I would never watch the likes of Saw or Hostel or that dreadful sounding Centipede movie because I don't see the need for that kind of stuff - and I'm a wimp. Sinister spooked me (as a good horror movie should) but it was in a 'haunting' way rather than a sickening way.

Like Insidious, Sinister's second half isn't as good as the tense and unsettling first half, but it does not go anywhere near as far off the boil. I know people have had issues with its ending, but for me it broadly worked (unlike that of Insidious). Do report back after you've watched it.

Report as promised!

Yes this was a surprisingly intelligent movie......believable characters and quite scary in parts.

Although I can see why people would compare it to Insidious, in my opinion it was a superior movie and didnt have the pile of poo ending

Glad I watched, thanks folks

I quite enjoyed it, nothing to rave about but worthwhile watching.

Maybe I'm becoming less susceptible to horror films lately but I thought Sinister was OK, nothing more than that. It made very little impression on me.

Glad you enjoyed it! I look forward to the sequel - although I wonder which direction it will take, given the bleak ending.

Ignore reviews and make your own mind up. I found it to be one of the creepiest films I've seen in years. The murder videos are disturbingly brilliant.
