I saw it yesterday, and that scene did me in! After a week that was all about ED and EE, Corrie quietly managed to play a blinder. Loved their every scene, including Roy's little impression of Sylvia. I lost a friend to cancer last year, and quietly took photos of him soon after the diagnosis, during a mock-gunfight with my children. Such a strong memory of what he was about to face, of how we would miss him, and how brave he was. That scene resonated so much with me tonight. The Corrie team really captured that awful realisation that nothing would ever be the same again.

When will I see you again?
When will our hearts beat together?
Are we in love or just friends?
Is this my beginning or is this the end?

It was very very well done. The whole episode was actually, it really brought home the heartbreak of knowing you will have to say goodbye someone you love, in such a touching way, well done Corrie!

It did feel contrived, though. The song just so happened to have lyrics that were really apt for the moment.

Not too contrived though. It's exactly the sort of thing Sean would want to sing, and it was a 3 Degrees hit, meaning he and Fizz could have a reason for getting Hayley to sing it with them.

The scene once more highlighted the fantastic acting of David Neilson. His facial expressions are so subtle, yet convey a tremendous amount of emotion.

Yeah, it didn't really ring true that Hayley, Fiz and Sean would merrily sing along to a song
that is so apt for her tragic circumstances without a care in the world. Lovely moment anyway though.

It seemed strange that Hayley was singing along happily to that song knowing what's going to happen to her. But it was very moving and emotional. I do worry how Roy will cope without her. Especially as he can't tie up his own tie! Lol

I must say the way Hayley is acting this is quite undermining the story for me. I appreciate there are very brave people out there but I would have thought you would have to come to terms with it and you would have down times, none of which seems to have happened with Hayley. It's like she hasn't quite understood it yet

Still the scene was very moving and mainly because it showed to a tee how well Roy is acting his part.. He is a vulnerable character anyway so seeing the pain through him hits it home that bit harder. Clearly they've chosen to illustrate it this way deliberately but I find Hayley's role in it jarring but Roy's really quite touching.

Hayley seems very sad indeed (that scene in the cafe with the lights off, in particular). But a lot of people who have cancer really don't take it in. They often throw theselves into plans and try to push it to the back of their mind - because otherwise they'd stop being able to go on. Everyone is different, but I have seen a lot of denial when it comes to terminal diagnoses. Probably quite a healthy human reaction, in many ways. Hayley is putting on a brave face, that's all.

The only time Hayley has cried was in the hospital when she was told. Fiz has done more crying. I would do my crying in private though and put on a brave face in public.

I see Hayley's behaviour as her coping mechanism. We've had hints that she is devastated but putting Roy and her friends first is absolutely typical of her character.

The scene, and Roy's subtle reactions, was all the more heartbreaking as it was so understated. Even the presence of Sean didn't grate as much as it usually does although I do hope they don't have him play a major role as this story plays out as Antony Cotton just isn't a strong enough actor.

But she doesn't put Roy first. He tells her not to do things but she goes out and does them anyway regardless of how it makes him worry. She organised a party for him that everyone who knows anything about him, knew he would hate, yet, once again, she still goes ahead.

My brother in law lost his life to Pancreatic cancer just over two years ago. He knew there was no hope, but right up until the day before he passed, nobody would have known there was a thing wrong with him.

Although in excruciating pain, he kept it well hidden, and never gave up being positive until the day before it took him, when his body couldn't fight anymore. Then he spent 30+ hours semi conscious, and then was gone.

So I find Haleys protrayal very believable, and true to life....except for her singing that song. Never in a million years would Haley have sung that to Roy in the circumstances/

That is exactly how I feel about the character. All along since her cancer was discovered she has appeared much too jolly and bubbly. She would be feeling down and depressed and also feeling very unwell.
I am just comparing her to my late sister who died of the same cancer at the age of 48.

Regarding the choice of song - there was a small joke at the start of the party about how song choice is a minefield (the 'Old Before I Die' moment). So many songs are about love lost and regrets, and about longing.

That's quite true to life. I remember a Radio 1 DJ being asked about whether the station was hypersensitive to such things - he said no, as just before the news of the King's Cross fire (obviously, a while back), he was about to play 'Going Underground' and 'Down In The Tube Station At Midnight'. The news reachied him just in time.

You have to be so careful - and it's often only you who notices. Like when I nearly bought 'The Bunny Suicides' as an amusing present for a cousin (12), forgetting until almost the last minute that his uncle had taken his own life. [And then there was the time my mum rang her friend to comfort her after her husband had narrowly survived an accidental electrocution. Yes, she said what a terrible shock it must have been...!]

Me neither - I know Corrie will treat her final scenes poignantly and sensitively, but it will be painfully sad. I remember Alma's storyline being hard to watch.
