So because posters want to keep a board that discusses the silly little tv programme exactly as they want it, they have the right to tell others how to behave, and to dismiss them on no authority other than impatience?

It's high-handed, to put it as mildly as possible.

It's rude.

No worries hun, it's easily done. My annual lesson on reading posts properly learned.

I apologise if I have ever told you or others to get back in the Attic, though it doesn't sound like my style.

However I would LOVE to be one of the Mods on Digital Spy- shall we see if there are any job vacancies going?

I'd dispute that actually.

When someone suggests that one person should be confined to a sub-forum all by themselves and that suggestion is "applauded" by others simply because they don't like the person's style of writing, or their likes and dislikes in terms of presenter or professional dancer or celeb, then segregation based on personal bias is exactly what some members are supporting.

EDIT for some on-topicness: I think I may change a habit of a lifetime and choose a favourite partnership from the off. J&J are looking more and more likely

I doubt you have done! It doesn't sound like you.

Being a mod... Bwerr! I wouldn't do it. It's that stuff wazzyboy's talking about... Even if you could understand every point of view, to gauge the emotions behind them (as would be fair) needs Godlike powers.

Eg, I say I don't like being told what to do, and a lot of post-coppertop posters assume it's an attack on the non app thread, which it isn't. It's my bolshiness kicking in.

I'm sorry for being bad-tempered, which I was in my reply to coppertop.

Ah, I do like Janette (what i've seen of her so far anyway), but there is no way on earth that I can ever see myself supporting Julien... I felt uptight even typing his name just then

I know... It's the 'get back' part rather than the 'attic' bit.

A lot of posters do keep to the attic. Others stop posting altogether. I think of how things are now on TV, compared to what I can remember back when I was little and my nan was alive. I can just about recall the pre-satellite, pre-cable days when you had four channels and everyone would sit and watch Antiques Roadshow, a programme about the wetlands, and Top of the Pops. It was on, you shared it. My nan didn't like Top of the Pops and I had to put up with a running commentary on the hair styles and clothes. I thought Antiques Roadshow was a guessing game about the price, and probably annoyed everyone with shouting out.

But now kids can go and watch YouTube videos of exactly the thing they want to watch. Mam can enjoy a specialist cooking channel. You can watch sport all day. News all day etc.

No one shares the weird tastes and proclivities of the others. It's bad! More variety is narrowing for the outlook. On those terms I am opposed to the dividing of the board...

Yet I can see the arguments for having two distinct boards that have been given here and elsewhere. They make good practical sense. But there should be freedom of movement between them just to mix things up and avoid that narrowness. And maybe that means a little more acceptance.

QFT

If you start to feel your heart racing and blood boiling because of something somebody said on the Internet, particularly about a celebrity dancing with another celebrity, step away from the keyboard and do something else for a bit.

isn't an attic where you store stuff rather than have it in active use?

I explained this one in an earlier post, it comes from when the sub-forums were first created & the (friendly) joke was that DS had done an attic conversion. The nickname stuck because it's a handy internet shorthand rather than typing Appreciation sub-forum all the time.

Attic conversions are for things that are in active use & they are often created for a specific purpose.

I know you did, I was thinking about why the word was chosen and what its general usage is.

Maybe we should call it the penthouse apartment? That sounds really desirable

If you said attic to some people they might go looking for it with that name, not everyone catches on to the codes used around here.

Same with unapp, non app, etc.

Laborious I know, but better to stick with thread/subforum name maybe?

Also I did say in the Everything Allowed thread, appreciation is not just a positive tern. It can include constructive cricitism. it doesn't have to all be positive or what is that other codeword used around here, oh yes, "fluffy".

TBH, i've never personally seen anyone say 'get back to the attic'. I'm not saying it hasn't happened because without trawling through every thread I cannot say whether it has or hasn't. I have seen posters suggest to other posters that maybe some things are more suited to the attic but often this has been when a poster has been attacked for being mean about/jealous of a contestant, despite that poster offering a valid reason for why they do not like that pro/contestant. In these instances, it's not a case of people trying to dictate how people should post but offering a suggestion that if someone can't accept reading negatives about their favourite then the attic is a more logical place for them to post. It may not always be phrased politely because often, if a thread is fast moving or someone is juggling multiple threads, posters do not always have time to review whether it could be phrased better. Some people will have the intention to be rude but if you feel that a post has crossed the line of the t&cs then it should really be reported and left to the mods to decide whether it's acceptable or not.

Finally, I hope you won't find me rude if I do not reply to you (or anyone else that may have quoted one of my posts in the gazillion years it's taken me to compose this one) on this subject again on this thread, but it has all been seriously off-topic & I think that we should return to the subject of the thread before we all get told off by the mods

Codes? That implies one is trying to be obscure.

I prefer the term shorthand.

Might not be trying to be obscure but sometimes it might be. I can remember reading stuff in here when I first arrived and not having a clue.
