Think it was a Tango, not an Argentine Tango. Though, I suppose, the Tango doesn't feature fans so your point that is was bizarre still stands. But then it was a theme week and didn't detract too much from the Tango content so it can be forgiven. I also thought Kristina was very witty to combine the machismo of the Tango with the campness of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Props just become annoying when they're pointless (Natalie's bridge, Flavia's swing set), a bit ridiculous (Aliona's gardening prop filled Cha Cha Cha with Matt springs to mind) or an obvious ploy to waste time (Victoria's bike, Russell's canon).”

They were some of my favs

Ah, apologies gc. Once one SCD is over I tend to wipe it from my memory - although some of the weirder routines stay and give me nightmares every now and then!

Ballroom tango is different of course and I am a huge fan of Priscilla, and always will be Amazing film.

Jason was hard to take though so that might account for the memory lapse on my part!

sofakat... an OT question if you don't mind, have you ever seen anyone dance on a regular but non-professional basis with a slipped disc/back problem?

No, definitely not with a slipped disc, but with a managed chronic back problem yes. You'd have problems with lifts and very extensive partner work, but you'd be able to manage lindy, salsa or MJ. Not ballet though.

A slipped disc can be fixed with extensive and expert osteopathy though. I have known dancers who have had several. We regularly danced with sprained ankles though!

Thanks for your reply...
BIB...ouch!!! That sounds painful...
But I guess as they say, 'The show must go on'

ETA... how long after treatment were people usually able to restart dancing re slipped discs?

Ha, understandable . Not being Jason's biggest fan either my memories of him are limited to that Tango and his drowning man Jive.

You should have seen our feet! Hideous. But yes, you just went on. You get an real 'high' on stage when you perform so it stops mattering. You dance through pain and collapse later.

Madness!

So sorry! Missed the last bit!

Each case is different Pash. It depends on the severity of it, who treats them and how well they respond, and also the state of their body before injury. Pro dancers respond fairly quickly because their bodies are very sensitive to manipulation and are in good shape anyway.

Sometime slipped discs are diagnosed rather late and the body has shifted to over-compensate for the injury and inflamation, which means the injury can throw out more than just the back, but the shoulders, head and neck as well.

The difference is the treatment and the skill of the expert managing it.

Hmm....airport desk, park bench...if Rachel lasts that long maybe a bus shelter?

If it's just a scene-setter,somewhere to start and maybe finish then I like it.

Rachel deserves better than a bus shelter.

I know this is DWTS but I think this is the first example of a piano on the dancefloor......

If I were a Strictly producer I would get the props department to commission a giant sand countdown timer and a giant abacos frame with pretty coloured beads for Rachel.

Terry this made me laugh out loud for some reason. I do wish you'd ditch the trolling stuff and stick to being a bit of a wag - you can be very funny

Pasha used a piano for one of Chelsee's routines and it wasn't intrusive. He seems to use a lot of props and settings. Usually they don't detract from the dance, but the hoops he used for Kimberley last year were a major annoyance.

I don't like props that are introduced for time-wasting purposes, but when they are for setting and atmosphere, they're fine.

Would the exact dance be danced without the prop? If the answer is yes, why the prop? Beyond annoying.

For all the flack Aliona gets for using props, I am pretty sure all pros use them with the same regularity, yet they are never equally criticised for it.”

I cant remember which FM it was but they put together a thread of all the props the pros used in series 9 and guess who was top of that list........ Pasha

Not surprised at all.

Just a tad annoyed that the same people who constantly criticised Aliona's used of props, are huge fans of Pasha and never comment or critique his reliance of props, many times of the waste of time category.

I DO like Pasha, but the complete biased towards him in this forums is off putting.

What do you bet Rachel gets a representation of the Countdown set?

I was just going to use Jason & Kristina as an exanple of the way to use props, but with different examples. Their Halloweed Quickstep to Bewitched, with Kristina sitting on the pumpkin and their Foxtrot, which was like a Speakeasy, with an old-fashioned microphone and a table and chair. In both of those, the props were used perfectly.
