Many agree that 2007 was a brilliant year for HO with story's such as Hannah's anorexia, Who Pushed Clare, McDean etc.
2008 was very good too but not as strong as 2007, 2009 was pretty crap, 2010 was OK and 2011 and 2012 were very good for the most part.

So, does anyone agree that 2013 has been the best year of HO since 2007? Brilliant storylines such as Sienna/Daren/Nancy and Mercedes/Browning as well as Patrick and Maxine. There is always something going on and overall it's been brilliant. I didn't think we would see the quality of 2006/2007 return but I think it has almost, 2007 is still the best though.

I have enjoyed this year but think that the writer's have been a bit too safe so far. Brendan, Ash, Mercedes and Myra have all had near-death experiences only to have a 'twist' that they are actually alive. It's too repetitive and getting boring. Also, the exits this year haven't been very good. Overall, I preferred 2012 as we literally never knew what would happen next. 2013 has been ruined by the fact that nearly ALL storyline details have been revealed before transmission! I want another shock as big as Lynsey's murder or the bus crash!

I thought that this year was so bad that I stopped watching it completely last month, none of the characters interest me anymore but Nancy and underused Carmel

Nowhere near. Far too much of the last six months has been based on cheap shock TV rather than proper characterisation and drama.

It's all so hollow. Oh my God Mercedes is dead! No she isn't! Oh my God Myra's dead! No she isn't! Oh my God Darren is Sandy's son! Oh my God Will killed his mum! Oh my God Patrick is being accused of Texas's death despite everyone knowing he couldn't possibly do it!

There's nothing that even holds a candle to some of the plots of late 2012 and early 2013.

The slow-burn and great character drama of Esther's suicide alone puts this stuff to shame.

June 2012-March 2013 for me is a fairly golden era. Up until Summer this year was looking pretty dull with all the Will focus. The Six Weeks of Summer campaign certainly worked in getting my interest back though.

No, one of my least favourite years ever.

Like Hariken said, June 2012 to March 2013 was generally one of my favourite periods of all time.

The last sixth months has been one out-of-character melodrama followed by the next. Style over substance. There's no heart left. People die without consequence, shocks and big events go nowhere. I've gone from watching every First Look episode - sometimes twice - to now watching the omnibus out of loyalty and wishing I hadn't.

The Will storyline is filled with appalling acting, the Sienna stuff is saved marginally by Jessica Fox (Darren's been turned into an absolute knob and no family would be that dense), Patrick and Maxine is a muddled mess of a story using comedy mingled with a domestic abuse plot, Mercedes and Browning's relationship was ruined beyond all recognition and Myra's "death" was beyond farcical. If you're watching Hollyoaks drunk and enjoying the stunts and the Sunset Beach plots then fair enough. I miss the days when it was full of decent characters and character led plots. Not just stories that look good in a 90 second trailer.

No, I much preferred last years, this year started off good (Brendans Exit and Esthers suicide), but now its completely lost the plot, I'm really sick of the cheep shocks(tbh their not even shocks any more:sleep I'm really fed up of the Will sl and the Sienna sl they both seem never ending. Their are way too many baddies its getting tiresome.
I really didn't enjoy last weeks at all (Darren Sandy's son WTF), Its way too over the top at the minute.

I miss Brendan too

and HO later looks a bit crappy bar the tony sl too:sleep:

Nah I've switched off again this year. 2007 will always be my favourite year, but I thought autumn/winter 2012 and the start of 2013 was really matching the quality of 2007. The bus crash and Esther's suicide attempt were great storylines. But I think it's gone downhill again since then.

Still think it's doing well. Last year and this year have both been great. There's been plenty of shocks and suprises that have kept viewers gripped.
