I'm not a fan of Hollyoaks, however I have to admit their advertisement is brill and I'm considering tuning in over the Autumn. http://youtu.be/nGzqxySX20Q

Why can't the BBC produce a trailer for the Autumnn and Winter season, it won't cost them lots to do a montage of upcoming footage with music surely?! Such a missed and frustrating chance to bring in the viewers.

The thing about Eastenders is that nothings happening, nothing has happened in ages. No drama, no shocks and no reason to keep watching. Like them or not, Hollyoaks, Coronation Street and Emmerdale all have big stories that are keeping me watching.

Exactly, Eastenders doesn't have anything big to advertise.

The show needs a complete overhaul.

Hopefully that's exactly what the new EP will do . But he needs to act sharpish .
The writing team needs a serious tinkering with .

Yeah, I think the new EP will try. It's good the BBC are aware of its state, but it'll take time.

Do the EP even watch other soaps to compare stoylines?
seems like they don't, but they should!

Hollyoaks is the winner this year, all original unmissable storylines!

Hollyoaks is unbelievable and lays on the drama very thickly. However, if you can suspend your belief for half-an-hour and take each episode at face value, it is extremely entertaining, so I forgive the bad acting and unlikely storylines. If I'm looking forward to watching the next episode, it is doing its job correctly.

Completely agree....
I think once EastEnders decides which kind of soap it wishes to be then their will be less problem. Does it want to follow the traditional narrative structure of a soap opera, like it has done before or does it want to be post modern - like Hollyoaks - I feel at times EastEnders can be disjointed because it has at times, flip-flopped from one to the other making it overall less streamlined. One week we got baby swap, out of the world drama followed by a week of workers strike a very real day to day problem, that some of us have faced - this is just an example. People may comment me and say "well why can't it do both" and my answer to that would be to take a look at Brookside. It origins were in real life drama, looking at Britain and the issues faced by so many in Thatcher's Britain and then it went and done the siege storyline and before we knew it the show completely lost it's threading. I'm not saying that it was that one storyline that cancelled the show, there were other elements, but when it decided to go away from it's roots and flip flop between the two that's when problems occurred.

That's just my 2 cents though.

I agree, but if its a rubbish scene then the trailer will be rubbish, they need to make phenomenal stories first!

If Eastenders even bothered to do a clip like Hollyoaks has done they would just fill it with the Brannings

I have faith in DTC but he needs to bring some major players back to the centre of the show and to axe the deadwood.

Well that shows the difference in soaps. Hollyoaks can build up drama very quickly (especially with 5 episodes) and get away with more outlandish plots and experimental stories, filmmaking.

EastEnders doesn't work with that approach (as evidenced by Kirkwood's fail).

Hollyoaks does great trailers. Unfortunately the actual show is crap, and that's from someone who used to love it. I'd rather watch a show like Emmerdale or Corrie now, that just has great stories and doesn't need to endlessly try to flog itself, to be honest.
