In an age where brainwashing is rife; as im sure many of you will see the new fashion of todays teens is goth/skater/punk whatever.

I myself as a late teen, find myself needing to converse with people with similar music taste as myself, which is 'music'.
Im not intrested in an image, just music which can be taken for the merrits of it individually, rather than being tied down to a scene, and all that comes with it.

My personal preferance will always lie with electronica/ambient and experimental. Ive done various searches on google for forums where people with similar musical taste may discuss the music - but to no avail.

I like the following artists:

Air, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Cylob, Four-tet, m83, múm, Orbital, Sigur rós, Seefeel, The Knife, Unkle
Interpol, Morrissey, Meat Loaf, Placebo, Radiohead, The Smiths, The Verve
Bent, Chicance, Lemon Jelly, Satie
Etc.

I also like the 90's, and disposable pop songs, that is, inteded disposable pop songs, you know, like the lost prophets, and things like that. One thing which annoys me, is fanatical kids who dont realise the manufactured elements behind such music.

So i was wondering if any freethinker on DS would happen to know of a forum? ds is a good forum, yes, but its not musically orientated. which is what im after atm.

I think we're all looking for a better forum than this one . You know, somewhere where people actually express opinions and have discussions rather than just creating lists.

This one is pretty good:

CoolClarity is a bit poppy but there are other forums on there which might suit you. Channel 4 Music forum is not bad but a bit heavy for me.

lostprophets was 90's? I thought they released their debut in 2001? Or have I misunderstoof and were you saying they are disposable pop?

Your not alone in your music tastes vivo, you share a lot with me... we used to be the majority on digitalspy until it turned itself into an online bastard child of the Sun and Heat magazine.

Its just turned into digital-chav

I was saying i liked the 90's, seperately to disposable pop music like the lost prophets, not that i liked the lost prophets because they were from the 90's.

Now, i really despise the term 'chav' and everything it entails. Its been turned into this OTT commercial thing, its everywhere you look, magazines, books,tv, news papers etc. Theyre making BIGCASH over this, its 'cool' to hate 'chavs'.
Dont get me wrong, i too hate 'chav' culture, just as i hate 'goth' culture etc, its all about fashion, and control. Id sooner generalise and call the whole lot of them peasants than lash out at one scene inparticular.

I know what you mean now vivo. Thanks for clearing it up.

Have to agree with you about the word chav too. It's not so much the word I hate (although it is a ridiculous word) but the dispicable attitude of those use it. Especially in the media.

Yes, probably my favourite music site although the forum has a few too many music snobs for my liking .

....And like June said, its a bit poppy, plus it runs on a spincircle like clique of friends, its also too personal, and some of the members are very up on themselves PLUS its skin is incredibly bland. I'd recommend not joining to be honest...ChartRefugees seems to be an alright bet now (which seems CoolClarity copies from).

Actually you are wrong mate, a lot of my work gets copied and pasted on CR without giving any credit whatsoever, Chartrefugees gives a bad reputation to slag off new members, so if you are prepared to be slagged off, go on and register, otherwise coolclarity is the best option, if you want the whole package from optional forums and different genres of music, from Charts, Dance Rock, indie, etc, nothing too poppy about it

Yes its very useful, one of the best music forums around. Don't let others say anything different, unless you experienced it first.

Cool clarity is a great site!. You anyways get a few 'up themselves' members on any site, including DS and Chartrefugees. does'nt make them bad sites, as the majority on all sites are quite affable and friendly sorts.
and CC isnt just 'pop', there are a lot of different forums there that are about all sorts of music.

Johnny, you can't bring the whole site into disrepute just because a couple of folk have annoyed you for whatever reason in a non-music forum within CC.The music related forums within CoolClarity provide everybody with all the music & chart info one needs.
CoolClarity prides itself on having over 1400 members (all signed up since Dec 2003) and is a must for any music lover, old & new.

There's more to CC (or other specialist sites) than just chat & getting personally involved in silly arguments with 2 or 3 people who don't share your opinion.
Dozens of members post there everyday in the music forums without incident.

Take your frustration out on those 2 or 3 individuals, not the whole site.

CoolClarity looks OK, at least it seems to be popular/lively. I'm going to make a few posts to test the water....

There were times when this sort of thing was discussed. I remember two threads in particular: The Progressive Rock Appreciation thread started by Marillion Fan and this thread started by me. I think you'll find it crosses over into the territory you enjoy.

If you do enjoy experimental music (I notice Sigur Ros is on your list - fine artist), perhaps it may be worth you checking out Godspeed You Black Emperor! - here's a link, which provides more info on this fine ensemble!

Enjoy and I hope you succeed in your search.

Psst. When you do, please let me know.

Ohhh, interesting... I've got quite a bit of newage, just random things ive downloaded while scouring the net. Most of it though i listen to on digital satellite, the only downer of it is i dont get the artists/song titles.

I think out of all the forums posted, i like radiomute the best ... It may not be as busy as some of the others, but its forum categories are perfect and the people seem nice too

I'm also curious of anyone here watches 120minutes on mtv2? or listens to the blue room on radio1 or chillercabinet on classic fm?

I'm going to be checking out a few of the recommendations I think... there's always room in my life for somewhere else to talk about music. I know I don't post a lot here, but I honestly don't know what I'd say in reply to a topic about Girls Aloud for instance! Maybe I should start more topics myself, but then I get worried that no one will reply and I'm back to square one, lol!
