I am not the richest guy in the World, and thinking of gambling on the PS4 coming down in price or getting it for cheaper on Ebay a few months after it's released.

Is it worth it?

If you're that strapped for cash I'd go for the PS3 and the cheap used games. There will be plenty of new releases for at least a year or so too.

Yeah and I bet there will still be many people playing online with the PS3 for years too.

You won't get much in the way of discounts on the system for a long time yet. If the demand is as strong as they are suggesting we'll probably see inflated prices on eBay, too.

I'm considering scrapping my PS4 pre order, Im just not hyped about it and I honestly can't see any stand out games. I'll just wait a year or so like I have every other console, I still have the PS3 to keep me going.

Not every PS3 owner is going to just suddenly jump ship...

Your biggest gamble would be to buy any second hand console on ebay.

Exactly. Also quite a few games are being simultaneously released on both systems, so no need to jump just for a couple of exclusive games (though i guess, most will still have their PS3's avaliable).

I'll wait until the summer or late 2014 until i buy a PS4.

I wouldn't advise it, not until some good games come out. The PS3 is the better option right now.

I think the PS4 is well worth the risk but don't be thinking you need to buy on launch day, I got so worked up about which system to go for, asking myself should I wait a few months after launch before buying?? Do I need a new console? What should I do????

Eventually to put my own mind at rest I cancelled everything and decided to treat my PC to a more punchy graphics card. Yes I will be getting a PS4, any gamer worth his salt will, but there is no shame in waiting a while, especially if money is tight.

It's a fantastic peace of kit that will be around for years to come, think of it like that and you'll soon realise that you can wait a few weeks or months.

As with all new releases of this nature (xbox1/ps4/Iphone/pad etc) there will be shortages and from my experience e-bay is far from the cheapest as you will bidding against others for the "must have" items.
There is no chance that Sony will drop the price of the ps4 after release even if the console bombs all over the world (which so far looks highly unlikely).
Just look at the Vita which has only just got a price drop over a year after release.

I will be getting both but thats only due to pre planning and saving cash over the last 18 months as well as only buying games brand new that I really wanted with the rest either renting or getting second hand.

I would honestly wait a year, and see if it's worth it for you.

Xmas 2014 should be nice and competitive between Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft will likely make the first move in cutting under that 400 mark(maybe 349.99?) and Sony will counter with 299.99. I personally don't think its worth waiting a year to save fifty quid if you really want one now.

Personally, I wouldn't bet on a PS4 price reduction any time in the first twelve months. I think the best you could realistically hope for is better bundle deals with savings perhaps if you get the system with two or three games bundled.

Also Sony is by far the favourite of the next gen with Microsoft apparently able to do nothing right as even after backtracking on all their controversial decisions they still appear to have the public's derision. I think the XBone really could see a price drop in the first twelve months but with the Kinect as standard there is no way they could afford to sell it at 349.99, it would probably go to 399 or at best 379, so it would still be more than PS4 and hence not worry Sony too much.

It really depends on how the Xbox One sells and all indications suggest that they will be behind come this time next year. How much behind will determine how aggressive their strategy is. I find it hard to believe that Sony wouldn't counter any significant price drop from Microsoft. It's business 101. Remember, first priority is selling more units than your competitor and everything else falls into place.

look at the games and decide.

Check to see what upcoming games are coming out on both PS3 and 4 and use that to make your choice.

Of course you cant ignore the back catalogue......

Look at the games available at launch and decide based on that. For me, despite really wanting a PS4, have decided to wait. There are no stand-out launch titles for me, and the titles I'm hyped for aren't coming out til early 2014, so I'm holding out

I wouldn't imagine any sort of price cut in the foreseeable future.

I don't think Microsoft will cut until the production costs go down. The XBox overall has not made money for them. It's been profitable in recent years, but if Microsoft keep throwing money at it they'll be in trouble with their shareholders. Their only option would be to unbundle Kinect, which they can't do without destroying their promise to devs that they could rely on every owner having one.

Sony already have the better and cheaper machine, and are already selling at a slight loss, so they won't reduce either. They don't have to.

Whoever said that the PS4 will come down in price in it's first year is clearly on the devil's dandruff.
