Does it seem likely that with DTC's arrival, the colourful, cheerier and upbeat and cleaner version of the opening titles to EE, which have become heavily associated with Kirkwood and Newman's era's, will be revamped?

NO....The Current Credits and Theme were changed by DTC and Santer so no chance he will change them

I hope they do, the current ones are quite gloomy.... They could at least give it a newer mix!!

I think EE are to scared to change them. As in the past when they have changed them it's been only minor changes. I think they should refresh the credits altogether! Maybe a birds eye view of the square.

NO changes...The Theme and credits are far too iconic for dramatic change. A few tweaks is fine.

This. If anything any major changes could damage the show rather then do it any good.

Of course I wasn't suggesting they revamp the entire concept - just give it another facelift and tweak the musical arrangement of the theme.

It just seems that DTC's arrival is coming at a time where the BBC are admitting that they have dropped the ball and perhaps a refresh would be something considered.

I personally find the current 2010-???? titles are irritatingly cartoonish and pretty - a complete contradiction of what's going on in the square.

No No & No.

The titles & music are the brand, no need for change.

Concentrate on much more important issues like bad casting, characters & storylines

But they've changed loads of times.

I'm in no way suggesting they get rid of the panning ariel shot and iconic theme music -

I'm wondering if the current "look" will be an outdated reminder of Kirkwood and Newman's years - and something the new team will want to move on from and refresh.

The storylines and characters are the main things that need fixing, however it wouldn't hurt to give the current titles a refreshed look!

They haven't changed loads of times!

1985 -1993 - B&W map/blue river, original theme
1993 - 1994 - First colour map/Jazz music
1994 - 1999 - Colour map continues, original theme re-score
2000 - 2009 - Millennium Dome added, music no change
2009 - present - New map with clouds / slight music tweak

End credits changed a bit more due to BBC One policy in end cap advertising but thats pretty much it I think

They should go back to the realistic aeriel view with the subdued colours rather than the tacky one they have now with the spots of neon green grass and sapphire blue Thames. It looks so cheap and tasteless; and not in a good way.

I hate the current titles and theme music. The blue river looks tacky and cheap, and the music is far too cheerful.

Bring back the dirty green/brown river and go back to the 1994 theme. Or if they want to be bold, they could resurrect the original theme and update it slightly.

This is my exact point. TPTB are to scared to change because of reactions like this. I think they do need to change an not just a few tweaks here and there! A brand new set to refurbish the show! And while try are at it they could try to re-vent EE.

There's a old saying that says 'Don't fix what's not broken' but it's obvious EE is broke and they should fix it by taking risks like changing the opening!

I don't think the way to fix a show that has been alienating viewers for the past few years is to make a bunch of radical changes which alienate even more viewers.

HO did back in 2010 when Paul Marcuss took over. The show was in a right state but after he did so many changes HO has gone from strength to strength

Hollyoaks and Eastenders are two very different shows.

True but maybe them taking a lead out of Hollyoaks book might help them out a bit!

The titles and theme is fine.

The show has bigger problems than that.

The show is in a state because of its substance not because of the colour of the Thames.

Debatable, Hollyoaks was in quite a state back then and he left sharpish.

Rushed rewrites, scrapped storylines, whole chunks of filming axed.

It did not go from strength to strength, it relied on one sensational murder after another, there's about 5 murderers on the go at the minute and whilst it has entertained a certain portion of the audience, it's that kind of lazy writing and fly by your pants showrunning that is the reason EastEnders is so crap.
