I am really pleased that Carl has been axed from Eastenders. He was a completely pointless as a character and just a poor Derek Branning replacement.

Same, he always had a strained face like he was constipated. Carl was not anything EE describe him to be, another character fail.

He wasn't even given a chance. And the material they gave him wasn't great.

This. Maybe it's because the last 2-3 years have been so crap, but I thought the actor was decent enough. He was just given nonsensical and crap scripts.

Its annoying and boring when most of the time the new bad guy wants to be King of Walford and will definately have a turf war with Phil, its just makes the character lame.

this, i knew he was being overated due to fans want for shady characters. To be fair his introductions wasnt that bad (acting was iffy and the ian stuff got redundant) but ok nontheless.Where they misfired was placing him in phil's orbit so soon. And his sudden shift to a one note villian

Completely agree, it's like they were slowly introducing him and building up his backstory with his mother and Kirsty and then suddenly out of nowhere in the space of an episode things had escalated between him, Phil and Max.

There was a time something like that would be the climax to a long and well developed storyline but they kind of just skipped right ahead in the hopes that the audience would be excited by a crash stunt.

Agree with all the above. But feel sorry for Daniel due to the fact he's made redundant after two to three months!

I think he's gone so soon cos no one really took to him. Ok the material wasn't great but then again neither was his acting! That scene with him and Kirsty lunching together and him blatantly looking at the r&r and laughing was ridiculous!!
Flashback but I think only one who really managed to have some clout with Phil Mitchell still on the square was Steve Owen.....

Why can't we have a Paul Trueman type bad guy, or actually just bring back Paul Trueman.

Witness protection and all that.

Personally, I liked him purely because I enjoyed watching him outwit Max at every turn and put Philth through a car windscreen . The writing definitely let him down. He had a interesting enough backstory, but just needed to be developed steadily before being thrown into the action. And I wish he would let go of his obsession with Kirsty - I'd say that is part of the reason why the character flopped. His obsession with Kirsty made him very limited as a character.

Well he died off-screen and Patrick identified his body, however it could've been part of one massive witness protection scheme and now the 'gangsters' have all but gone, it would be great to have one of Patrick's sons back.

Totally agree with these posts!

Nothing more to add, these posts (and others in the same vein) have said it all

If he's only leaving in the New Year, then he musn't die at the hands of Phil, Max and Ian in the disused quarry - it sort of takes the mystery out of that teaser, doesn't it?

This suggests that a major storyline or two has been scrapped; good. Carl is far too derivative a character to be any good - a bit of Steve Owen (his mum), a lot of Andy Hunter (the obsession with one woman, trying to ruin the bloke she is with), and quite a bit of Derek.

Agreed. Same as the Shirley disappearing storyline has been ruined by releasing too much info too soon.

Could explain why the viewing figures have gone down? We no longer have to watch because we know everything that's going to happen, lol!!!!

This.

And the fact that Phil must always come out on top, makes things even more lame.

I think Newman was certainly planning on bringing in his family having seen his brother and his weird relationship with his mum but obviously DTC had other ideas.
