Kindle usb connection problem
We have two Kindles a standard one and a paperwhite.
I have three computers a) a desktop running XP b) a laptop dual booting Vista and Win 8 and c) a Samsung N220 netbook which I usually take on holiday as it is the most portable. Both Kindles will connect by USB with no problem to the desktop and laptop (both OS's) but only the standard Kindle will connect to the Samsung netbook. The paperwhite is not recognised as an extension drive. Whilst on holiday recently the paperwhite would not connect wirelessly to available wifi hotspots and since it also would not USB connect, there was no way to add new books or otherwise get online. On return to UK the wireless connection to my home network is now OK but there is still no USB connection recognition. I have tried all USB ports on the Samsung and different connection leads but the problem remains - no USB connection. Can anyone suggest where the problem lies and a possible solution? |

You do not say what OS is on Samsung. I would check device manager if there is any unrecognised HW there. But the Kindle should be a standard USB device, so I can't see a reason why it would not be recognised.

Hm, I would compare what drivers are used for both Kindles. One thing that might be a problem (and this is a wild guessing) is that the new Kindle wants more current from the USB port, so compare that as well. Perhaps netbook's ports have a lower limit how much they can give and that's not enough to connect the new Kindle correctly. BTW had it ever worked with the Samsung?

My first choice these days for everything is indeed DS, but as the members here can't fix your problem try the Kindle Users Forum, or Amazon.

I've not tried to connect the paperlite via USB before. Only tried whilst on holiday because I could not connect wirelessly. Having returned home the wifi connection is now OK (for some reason) so no need to connect via USB. I guess the problem is a little academic until I go on holiday again but curious nevertheless and I would like to find out why. |
