So that we were left with a core cast of about 15 or so characters. Less overall storylines, but means more focus on these storylines

Indifferent, i would not sit crying gnashing my teef, wringing my hands or posting hysterically on here. More axings are needed and not just in front of the camera.

I'd be fine with it - as long as the right characters are axed.

I remember Mathew Robinson axing a load of characters in the late 90's and it was the best move he could have done. There were so many characters past thier sell by date, and in the process he managed to re-energise the show with new faces, and paved the way for John York material.

Agree with this.

I’m not against characters being given the boot, but as long as there’s some sort of strategy in place for the show. I do have favourites that I don’t want to see leave, but if it is for the long term benefit of the show, I’m all for it.

I said this many times, if you going to axe a character such as AJ, they need to look why the character is not working and if the fault is with the writers and that's where the axing should start. Also I find that there's too many taxi rides out the show when a new producer comes in that even their leaving material is rubbish such as Tyler's leaving to work on a cruise ship. When BK took over he got rid of so many characters and introducing new characters that the leaving stories were rubbish and the new characters we were meant to care about them without really getting to know the character.

I just hope he is being as ruthless with the crew as with the cast. There is no point tackling the symptoms if you are ignoring the illness causing them.

15 is too few a number for 4 episodes a week. Even when it was 2 episodes there were over 20 characters. With that said, I'd be happy to see the cast size reduced and for all the filler characters to be axed.

15 is too few. You'd have thee or four families rattling around the square, and the work load for the actors would be intolerable.

A core of fifteen is far too small to produce two hours of drama per week. The problem with the current cast is not the size of it, it's that too many of them serve absolutely no purpose. I'm happy with the recent axings, and I can think of at least six more that I would add to the list. But I would also bring in a couple of new families to make up the numbers.

Am fine with the axing continuing.

Danny - don't see the need. Bisexuality - Lorraine thought it would get everyone interested. Yawn
Cindy - WTF. Really?
Jake - Lorraine's last ditch attempt to save her ass. Not working

Keep chopping DTC

They should leave too but i think they are being kept as they are the only asians if they left Eastenders would not be 'multi-cultural'

I wish Syed and Zainab were there instead loved them both, I love how Tamwars getting bullied by Michael would be nice seeing him snap and murder Michael with the socks.

This. None of these characters are good additions to the cast.
Danny, why the hell was he brought in, so far he has done nothing remotely interesting.
Cindy, another annoying teen, that will probably start going out with the cardboard cut out Liam
Jake, why??? Seems like he's only there to create a love triangle between Joey and Lauren
Sam, dull, boring and tedious
The beautician, what is her purpose on the show.

I'd also axe Alfie, Roxy, Fatboy, Joey, Tamwar, Whitney, Bianca + kids, if they have no plans for Max other than shagging then I'd also axe him, also Masood has gone down in my books wouldn't miss him if he left.

A cast of 15 is too few. I'd say get rid of the Hartmans, bring in a family to replace them, bring back Peggy, plus a new villain and it would be perfect.

Every time a new boss comes in I pray that Billy Mitchell will be axed but he survives every time! He is such a boring waste of space character...........................

I'd be happy to see many current people axed if it's the right people - however i'd want to see them slowly replaced by decent characters over time who we can invest in rather than have them flung in with the audience not giving two hoots about them first - the slater family came in as a whole big family and yes made a really big mark from the word go but there was something there - a spark...and character building - even though you couldn't have missed them cos of being loud and explosive that big storyline built up you knew from the looks Kat gave Zoe that something was there - you knew from her attitude with Harry something wasn't right, the looks she gave Charlie or big Mo when something happened with Zoe - it was in the background building to the explosion - the show is missing that kind of development

Blimey give them a chance! They've only been in it five minutes! Not every character needs to run up and slap you in the face straight away, especially if they're in it for the long haul.

Look at Michael, everyone was asking for him to be axed after five minutes saying what a nothing character and an awful actor he was and yet he's now arguably one of the best characters in the show.
