Is Axing to many people the right thing to do.
With the new eastenders boss making his mark is axing 4 people probably more to come going a bit to far.

No, his just axing deadwood, people who he run there course!
I think he's great, there were a LOT more axings in the past, even the big named characters, the show did survive! |

No as Ben said there are just to many characters that don't really add nothing to the show. All he is doing is axing the deadwood, and part from Poppy who I love (maybe not for her acting though
) he's made the right choices so far.

It depends.
If they're clearing the characters who have no place in the show or have reached a natural end point then I'm all for it. But axing filler characters just to give the filler material to other people I don't see the point. I'd rather see familiar faces who have been there a while than constant new faces filling up all the extra space with silly stories. |

I think it's the right decision. None of the characters added much to the show besides Kirsty really and the actress wasn't planning to stick around for long anyway.
People here have been calling for massive axings for a long time and now when it has happened they are complaining. |

Nope - best move any one has made in the EE team for a long time (might put bringing David Wicks up with this too - as long as they don't ruin him by doing so)
All 4 of them are dead weights I couldn't care less about - DTC should axe more (he can start with Sam if he likes) |

No, when Kirkwood took over he axed 6 people in one go. Unfortunately some of his choices were the wrong people to axe, I think the worst one being Charlie Slater - but DTC seems to have this nailed so far and have pin pointed two very boring characters and two characters who's time would of been up by the end of the year anyway.

The writers clearly don't know what to do with half the characters on the show so getting rid of pointless characters is definitely the best thing the producer could do, especially when some of the good actors are getting fed up and choosing to leave. It's time to focus on improving the writing for the strong characters and cut the crappy plots that just give the weaker characters something to do.

No, DTC is doing what people on here were begging Lorraine Newman to do - I don't see why people are complaining just because their favourite character like Poppy or AJ - two Deadwood Characters - are getting the chop

Yes it desperately needs it and it should stop at just 4 - 6 either.

I'm saying no, it's not going too far - I won't really miss any of the six we've learned are to be axed. |

I don't think it is, they axed 16 people from HO once, Its seams to be doing fine.

Yes, but Hollyoaks has truckloads of characters to fill its 5 episodes.
16 of them is barely a dent.

Is the question meant to read: Is axing so many people the right thing to do? Have voted on that basis.

I clicked yes by mistake. I wanted to say no. No, axing too many people isn't going to far - so long as it's the right people.
I think DTC has got it spot on so far. I'd be happy to hear news of Dexter and Joey next - though I take no delight in actors losing thier jobs. It's just as a viewer, there is too much deadwood and characters that have no place, little purpose or are limited. We need someone to take some bold brave decisions and do what's neccassary. With Lorraine, I got the impression that she just wanted to be everyones freind on Elstree and lacked the nerve - in the axing and storyline department. At the end of the day Mathew Robinson axing all those characters in the late 90's was the best thing hed could have done. It paved the way for a new era and I hope this is the thinking by DTC. Axing, like it or not, is a neccassary task for all EP's for ALL kinds of shows. Its not pretty but sometimes it just needs to be done. |

I appreciate that DTC is getting rid of characters who do not fit into his vision as EP. Very exciting to see someone making decisions (not LN's strongest point)

He has a vision. He knows what he wants. If that works then it'll be great again. If he's wrong then we are back to where we were in 2011 so no loss
