9300t reception channel 5

My tv and recorder work off an indoor aerial. Not brilliant but usually ok.

I'm puzzled. The recorder has problems receiving and hence recording channel 5. The obvious explanation is a reception problem, but the tv has no problem at all. Any idea what's up?

What problems? Pixellation? Freezing?

How about other channels on the same multiplex, such as ITV, C4 and ITV2?

Have you rescanned the channels recently?

What is the signal strength/quality for C5 (and others)?

For other users to be of any help here we need more information.

Max's previous post suggests some of the info that would be useful.

Are you sure you are receiving C5 from the same transmitter on the TV and the 9300t? Do you know which transmitter you should be using?

It might be useful to try a manual retune of the 9300t following Big-les's instructions and see if this improves the reception.

Thanks. I'll do the BigLes instructions later.

In the meantime more information: the recorder has several times recorded a black dead screen. I've always assumed this was dodgy reception because of the indoor aerial and I haven't particularly noticed whether it was always the same channel. Last night was the first time I was on hand to see what was happening. Channel 5 on the recorder was a black screen saying it was scrambled and unavailable. Channel 5 on the tv was excellent reception. Just tried again and without doing anything channel 5 on the recorder is excellent.

fyi the recorder sometimes records jerky and pixellated - again I've just put this down to the indoor aerial.

My transmitter is Crystal Palace - and I'm probably less than 5 or 6 miles from it.

I haven't rescanned the recorder though the tv went through a fit a while back of insisting there were new channels and it wanted to be rescanned everytime I switched it on.

When you say indoor aerial, do you mean a set-top one or a loft one? I assume it is pointing towards Crystal Palace and is horizontal.

What would be really useful to know is if you can record without problems on ITV or Channel 4 (or More4, Film4,ITV+1,C4+1,E4). These should be on the same multiplex as C5 and so should have the same problem. Do you have any problems with other channels (BBC)?

If they are ok, check that all the channels above and C5 are broadcast on channel 26? - (Use MENU, System, Signal detection to find out). If ITV/C4 are OK and C5 isn't I would suspect that you would get 26 for ITV/C4 but something else (higher than 40) for C5. A manual retune may well sort this out. (For CP, the channels you require are 23,26,25,22,28).
