Hi all,

I'm a massive Dr Who fan and have been working hard to create this great event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Dr Who. Basically I'm a bit of a science nerd and fanmcied a Dr Who event that wasn't in London, or aimed at kids, so...ta da!

Dr Who: The Science Behind The Scenes
Saturday 16th November, 9:30-4:30, University of Central Lancashire, Preston

I hope to see you there!

Hey- I live in Preston. Cool- I'm going to have to make sure the wife doesn't plan on something stupid and frivolous that weekend, like a christening, or funeral or something.

Just a question- it says 12 year old+ recommended, I have a 6 year old who likes wacthing the show- would it really be too much for him do ya reckon?

Oh- and can someone show me how to make my sonic screwsdriver keyring work properly? I've been pointing it at things and it's not fixing them

What science does it cover? And how much in depth are the topics going to be discussed? I am interested to know what quantum mechanics has got to do with doctor who since virtually all of the time it applies to only extremely small things such as electrons and atoms.

I'm from Preston and this is on my Birthday. Anybody would think that this is some kind of 'fixed point' or something?

Hi @kyllerbuzcut

We are targetting the event at 12+ as it there is full programme of talks which might be a bit too much for younger children to concentrate through. Saying that though there will be other activites taking place outwith of the talks that your little one might enjoy, so you could always come down and see how you fare?

We'd love to see you there, one of our experts might even be able to fix that sonic screwdriver!

@bp2 There will be sessions on a variety of different things concerning the science behind Doctor Who, including what of Doctor Who is science fact and what is science fiction? Can we really call Doctor Who a doctor? The techniques used to create Doctor Who over the past 50 years. The Psychology of Doctor Who and the physics of time travel theory.

Regarding quantum mechanics specifically, James Davies (our resident expert) will be explaining all (including the connection with DW). So why not come along and find out more
