BT Sport - hidden cost
spencer1973

BT Sport isnt really free.

Plusnet - (owned by BT), offer the same packages, cheaper.

Their line rental is 90p per month cheaper, whilst the Broadband (top speed unlimited) is £19.99 per month as opposed to £26.99

SO BT sport costs me nearly £7.00 a month, hardly 'free'

No it's free, you're just paying more for your broadband

But you had to take out their broadband in order to get BT Sport.

All these other things like activation fee, connection fee, delivery cost of the youview box to switch. It cost a BT subscribers lot of money to switch just to access BT Sport.

Ex Virgin subscribers who switched to BT must be slitting their wrists ( with BT Sport 1 and 2 and ESPN now on Virgin) as it cost them a fortune to effectively downgrade to a lesser TV package and slower and limited broadband just to access BT Sport. Plus they have to pay a lot of money to BT for faults to be sorted out by a BT engineer every time whereas it's all included with virgin.

how exactlly is bt broadband limited ? i have absolutely no caps on my usage whatsoever,
however when i was with virgin they sent me three letters saying i would have speed restrictions as i had exceeded the download limit which was supposed to be unlimited .
been with bt for years now and never once had that type of letter and am downloading more now than i ever was on virgin .

Perhaps you have an unlimited package?

There are, I believe, 10gb and 40gb per month packages.

Wrong.

I've told you kids this 100s of times now. But you all keep getting conned by the marketing men over and over. It's not just BT, this is the same with all companies that keep tricking you with "FREE" offers. But basically...

Remember: If you have to PAY every month then its not FREE

Utter rubbish. Fault fixing is free.

I suppose it all depends on how you look at it.
If your coming from a cheaper provider to BT then yes you could say your not getting anything for free.
Current BT customers before BT Sport were paying the same price as they are now and can now get BT Sport at no extra cost.

Well I moved to BT to get Infinity about 2 years ago, and won't be moving anytime soon, so BT Sport is a freebie for me.

Sort of agree, however it's entirely clear that all these existing customers could easily save a wedge by moving away from BT so BT Sport still isn't really free at all.

been with bt long before they brought BT sport out , was happy with service before BT sport and am now even happier with FREE bt sport in HD - a far better HD than sky offer in terms of quality of picture .

So if you didn't take BT Sport, your internet would reduce by £7 a month?

No, it wouldn't. You're comparing two different internet packages.

I been on BT Infinity 2 over two years now and have been 98% happy with the service.
Maybe line rental is a little dear with BT but service is fine.

Actually, I'd take that. I don't watch any sport. So thanks to this thread I'm jumping to Plusnet.

And with their current offer saving £23 per month.

So glad I am getting rid of BT and all of their services after 13th November. I can see that the £900 million that BT sport has paid for Champions League and Europa League from 2015 will have to be paid by somebody and that will be BT users and I can see the prices for their services sky rocketing I can also see BT Sport instead of it been free on broadband will be subscription by the end of next year. So glad I'm moving over to Plusnet.

Depends on where your exchange is.

I'm on a market one exchange with no llu at all.

I'm with plusnet and they are £16 a month plus line rental. They will drop that to £13 a month for 3 months if I sign up to a new 18 month contract.

My contract is up on Xmas eve. Currently I plan to move to bt as they are also £16 a month. Bt also give me 6 months free and a £50 sainsburys voucher.

Oh and also whatever I can get from quidco on top

Fair to say there is no hidden cost for bt sport for me!

I was chatting to someone earlier who is a big football fan, but he said that his not going to get BT broadband just to get the matches they have just won. For one simple reason it will cost him more as he don't have broadband, no need for it. With sky you don't need broadband.

This is the problem with BT Tv service, if you don't have a computer , games console or any other product that requires broadband then it can be expensive.

Surly Bt must realise that not everyone needs broadband?

If you were already a bt broadband customer it is free. No additional increase in the subscription, BT have never been the cheapest and nothing has changed.

When BT lost their chains and was able to set their own prices and their own bundle, I thought they would become more competitive price wise, but they have not. What they have done is now become like other large ISPs in that if you want our broadband you have to pay for our phone line as well and now added stuff which they say is free, but it is not really.

ISP's are giving too many frills away now, while I agree that it may bring more customers who don't look at the big picture and think they are getting something for nothing, it don't help people who just want a bloody connection to the internet. Believe me there are are plenty of people who don't want the other crap

If he has Sky Sports and no broadband from Sky or anyone else and doesn't want broadband, then it's his choice , do without BT Sport 1, 2 and ESPN or pay £12/ month, lots of Sky customers are calling Sky and saying they are thinking of leaving Sky Broadband and get a £12 discount off their Sky TV subscription, enough to cover the BT Sport cost, but your mate not having broadband is not likely to get offered this if he called them.
your comment about computer or games console is incorrect, as you can watch BT sport on the Sky TV platform and it's free if you have BT Broadband or £12 if you don't, or are you pointing out that to get BT 's or anyone else's IPTV system you need the internet ?
