Does this mean that i could leave bt mid contract because of the price rise?
Yes, I've just switched to Plusnet from BT 9 months into an 18 month contract penalty free. You have to do it within 10 days of receiving the price increase email according to BT's T & C's though.

The only way I was allowed to do it was to cancel all my services with BT. I wasn't allowed to use a mac code to transfer my broadband over. It didn't bother me as long as I didn't have anything to do with BT and their customer services anymore. I know Plusnet are part of BT, but at least they have customer services that can understand you and know what you are talking about.

I informed BT within 10 days of receiving the email that i was going to move. That was at the end of october. I was also 6 months into an 18 month contract. A week ago i received a bill for £270. Luckily, i phoned them and they nulled the bill.

You may need to pay a £30 cancellation fee for cancelling the broadband.

I had landline, broadband, calls & bt sport.

My MAC code was in the email reply BT made to my notification that I wished to cancel, the reply also stated that they had "updated the notes in your account to ensure that no cancellation charges are to be raised for the remainder of your contract". I have that email securely saved

Plusnet have been OK after initially messing up my order, a lot easier to contact a human than BT as well

Do BT have to write to you to inform you of the increase and your right to cancel?

I received an email from them on October 23rd with the subject "Important information about your BT account".

At the bottom of the email in the T&C's it said the following.

"If this change means you want to end your service, you can do that by telling us within ten days of receipt of this email without needing to pay a charge for ending your contract early."

When I was told that I had to cancel all my BT products I was told that there was no £30 cancellation fee. It clearly stated in the e-mail. The cancellation team did try, but you're still in contract routine, until I stated what was in the e-mail and they tried to say this service was back and that service was bad... Until I said that BT's service has been great either....

There was no mac code for me, in the e-mail unless the idiot I dealt with cocked up, which wouldn't be a first for BT. I have had a few problems with Plusnet, but they are are all sorted now and I have a great service from them, including the 2 free months I have from Plusnet which includes my call package, line rental for phone and broadband for the mix up by Plusnet.

I am bemused how BT broadband are increasing the price of broadband only charges, I was charged £16.40 a month up to October then a price increase to £37.70 in November e-mail stated that I was charged in advance for December, checked bank statement for December another £18.85 taken.
Checked for potential price increase, now monthly charge to be £20.06, so as well as charging twice for December and two increases in charges is there anything else in the pipeline.
ps. I only have BT broadband, my line rental is with another company.

Anyone know what the current price range to successfully negotiate for is if you try and barter BT down to go back into contract on option 1? Anyone had a recent success?

I have just noted that according to their website to get BT Sport, and any Tennis coverage, I have to go back in contract for 12 months at a ridiculous £27+.

Do you just barter for option 2 rates, or suggest they actually match their competition like Sky?

I rang up today after no email or letter stating that my landline and broadband was going up. They said i was already aware of the price increase because i knew about it. I couldn't cancel without paying £200. BT are a joke
