HDR-FOX T2 crashes
Toonie
28-09-2013
Hi,

I've just gone out and bought a brand new HDR-FOX T2, of which I am generally very pleased with. In particular the tuners are very sensitive given my marginal reception, and the picture is very good.

I have tried the TV Portal features, and although the iPlayer app works well, the YouTube app crashes the whole thing most of the time. Basically, on most videos when I go to play them, it gets as far as starting to buffer the clip, then the PVR reboots.

The PVR came with V1.02.29. I have installed V1.02.32, and this has made no improvement. What I wish to know, is if this problem is generally on all units, or do I have a duff unit?

Many Thanks for any guidance!

Regards,
Toonie.

This problem only started to be reported in the last few weeks and affects bo the the FOX-HDR T2 and the FOX-HD T2. Humax are aware of the problem so hopefully a solution will emerge before too long.

Not directly related, but my Humax TNTSAT receiver has done this since new. Streaming video from a home server it generally crashes (locks up requiring a power-cycle) after 10-30 minutes. Makes it completely unusable as a "media portal". Sounds like Humax have got some buggy streaming software.

Coincidentally, I tried using Youtube today and found it crashed the box, so I'm glad to hear it's a widespread issue.

I find that YouTube and Radio player both cause the box to reboot. Nearly all of the Youtube content will not play out anyway so I have stopped using YouTube on this box.

What software version is your box using?

Known issue. Humax and Youview are aware of the problem.

YouTube changed something about the way they stream video and it causes the HDR to crash. Humax are aware of the problem, in fact the latest version of the HDR firmware that's "in the wild" works OK with YouTube. However, they haven't made that version available for download or via OTA, it's only installed in new (or Humax refurbed) boxes. If you hunt around on the web you should be able to track down a copy of that firmware that was extracted from a new unit. Note there is no guarantee that this is the version that Humax will eventually release through their official channels.
