I predict that by the end of the series he will regret his decision to come back. He will join the likes of Cher, Katie, Jedward and the ever dividing opinions Maloney Baloney

Anyone agree?

Noone is liked by everybody except Abba. If he does as well as Jesward or Cher he'll be pretty happy.

too early to tell but for the most part the publicity turns on most of them at some point. he did himself no favours last night and I'm sure if we see more of the same, the tide may well turn. I look forward to disco night though if he does get through

I don't think he makes it to live shows, so no villain role for he.

And those other people you mentioned where disliked for their attitude or lack of talent.

Joe is just a crying little ****

actually i think it was stupid from Sharon to ask the other judges who they\d boot off.
And the other judges shouldnt have opened their mouth, especially Gary. Bleh

Yeah I think you might be right, although closely followed by Giles (how he made it to judges houses!!) and Abi ( she will be liked for a week or 2 but that whole Janet/Diana Vickers thing always gets boring very fast

Don't know about Villain but I agree I didn't like the way he reacted at BootCamp.

Giles & Hannah B are my choices of villains this year.

Giles for his desperate in need of a snickers & Hannah B will surely get annoying if she ever ends up in the bottom two. If you think Maloney got annoying with mentioning his Nan, then I dread to think what it would be like in Hannah, probably something along the lines of..." WAAAH I need to stay in the competition, I am not going back there to my past of a broken home etc etc".

Well said, on the first point, though there was a time when it was very uncool to admit to liking ABBA, though many of us still did..

Joseph Whelan has one distinct advantage over Chris Maloney...

He's hot, hot HOT!

For that, I'll forgive him, more, or less, anything..

Well, if fancying someone is seen to be a good enough reason to support a boy/band, I can see no reason why those of us who prefer a bit of beefcake can't do the same, regardless of how well they can sing..

Rich.

If I'm right, Joseph is liked outside of DS, so I don't see it happening. Once the press inevitably drag up Tamera's drug taking bullying past, sadly it'll be her that's made the villain, ala Rachel Hylton, Misha, Lady Shiverz, Cher etc.

I don't really think anyone in this 24 is really that bad a person or dislikable enough to be fairly lumped with the "villain" title though.

I've been unwavering in my aversion to Abba ever since, if not before, it became apparent that their prominence was for life and not just for Eurovision. But, yes, Joseph's conduct on the bootcamp stage was pretty off-putting to me. As has been said, if he's not through to the lives then his potential as pantomime villain is rather limited. There's plenty of scope for one of those to develop, whether within the show's format or with help from the papers.

Snap, it became obvious, pretty quickly that they were going to leave behind an enduring body of work that's still talked about 40 years later..which is one of the reasons I find it slightly amusing when people get so worked up about and make facile comparisons between the latest "thang," and ABBA, or the Beatles for example.

I agree, I thought Joseph's behaviour on the stage at Boot Camp was unsavoury, but then, I thought the whole thing was.

But then, these people choose to put themselves through it.

Rich.

The sadistic part of me wants him to make the live shows just to see how he acts on results night when they call out the names of the people who are/aren't safe - is that wrong?

I can't blame Joseph at all for his reaction at Boot Camp- anybody in his position would be desperate to stay. It was a vile, vile trick to play, raising contestants' hopes like that- who can blame him for getting upset when he had his dreams dangled like that in front of him, then to have another judge (whose decision was irrelevant) potentially influence Sharon and take those dreams away.

Unfortunately for Joseph, he's walked straight into the producers' hands and given them an angle to play now. No doubt he will be portrayed as the one with a temper now, poor sod.

It certainly was a vile thing to do, full stop.
The whole thing made for very uneasy viewing, IMO.

This, I'm sure, was just another attempt to ratchet up the expectation and the "drama," of the situation, but, what a thing to do to people..
I'd be surprised if they weren't all in need of counselling after all that.

If you did something like that in certain circumstances, I think you could be had up for cruelty.

I remember the Prison Officer saying "I don't like this."
And, I totally agree with her.

Of course, they could all have taken part in a mass mutiny and walked off leaving the judges with no contestants at all.

Now, that would've made for some good "drama," in my book....like it was ever going to happen

In the end these people have set themselves up to be musical prostitutes, at best and fodder for the Cowell money making mill, at worst.

Vile? Counselling? Prostitutes?

Over the top much?

Everyone knows by now that X-Factor is a show that uses people, that chews them up and spits them out. That's the bargain they all make in the hope of a shortcut to easy street.

Seems perfectly natural to me

Howeve, assuming he gets through to the lives I can't see him being in the bottom 2 until week 5 or so
