Paul doesn't seem to have arrived yet, and I've got Pingu's comments so I'll press on.

Opening the show, it's the first of Pingu's Boys. Newly reinstated into the competition after being substituted for Ashley McKenzie, this first act first appeared in 2004's 16-24s category, mentored by Sharon Osbourne. Despite making it to the final, this act ranked lowest out of the Boys from 2004 so here he is.

Performing Blur's The Puritan, it's Tabby Callaghan!

Tabby
WOW Tabby what a way to open the show. Bearing in mind I had to pick these songs quickly I think you performed pretty damn well. You told a story with your rock, and that was a great start to the series. I hope the public vote you through to next week!!!

Tabby, first of all welcome to the show, I see what your mentor is doing, he has decided to go down the less predictable route which I think is an excellent way to go. I do hope you don’t become too boring doing the same thing, so a word to your mentor would be to hit the ground running and to shake it up next week to show a different side to the Tabby we know and love.

Hey there Tabby, welcome to the competition. I think that was a good song choice to start your progress and I liked the uniqueness of it. Even though you were part of the first series way back, I believe Pingu has you sorted as an ideal artist. I'm interested to see how far you can go. Good start to the show for me.

Generally positive comments for Tabby tonight, but that doesn't mean he's safe! If you want to see Tabby again next show, make sure you rank him high in your votes!

Our second act of the night is from Steve's Girls. After leaving in the first show of the 2007 series, this Girl also mentored by Sharon Osbourne was unfairly forced to perform first after a last minute time change as was eliminated due to people missing her performance (I remember I did).

Please welcome, Kimberley Southwick, with Britney's Work:

Kimberley
Kimberley I have actually forgotten you and I had to watch your performance again. I really don`t think that suited your voice. That was far too RnB and Soulful for you. Having said that the vocals were good but I want things more suited to your style!!!

Now Kimberley, when you were announced by Steve as one of the three girls, I was thinking “what the fecking hell is Steve thinking”, but how wrong I was, you proved to me there than you can sing slow and you can be emotional, I enjoyed it, well done you!

It was in 2007, Jacka.

Anyways...Kimberly, this is how you should've used your voice on the real show all those years back as I felt that Sharon mentored you all wrong. You sung it beautifully and you totally used your voice to your best strength. You're an enchanting singer in my eyes and this is only the beginning for you, I want you to stay for as long we can.

Mixed feedback for Kimberley tonight, but if you want to save her rank her highly in your vote when lines open!

Now we go to Paul's Overs and his first act who is no stranger to DS games. A recent act from 2012 and mentored by Gary Barlow, this country lass lost out in the first live show sing-off, sparking a walk out by her mentor.

Hoping to be the Fastest Girl In Town, it's Carolynne Poole

Carolynne, a rather neat performance tonight, a little bit predictable, but it is only week one, I would love to see you put your country twang on a modern pop classic, or even an rnb classic, just to prove to us you can put your stamp on songs. A good start to the show though!

Carolynne
Carolynne it pains me to say this as I love you, but that did not suit your voice at all. The style was right. Country. But it sounded too much like Carrie Underwood, and that just isn`t you. It seems like your mentor just picked the first country song he came across!!!

Carolynne, that was a big dose of pure Country with a twist of rock thrown in there too. I liked the upbeat song and I enjoyed the performance as well. All in all, it was pretty good for a first live show and I hope you get the votes tonight as I think you deserve to be back again.

More mixed comments from the judges for Carolynne, but it's down to you to decide if she stays or if she goes!

Coming full circle, we arrive at Tom's Groups for their first act. These Essex girls are always up for some fun, and even half the group being preggers didn't stop the duo from continuing in the competition. Don't slag them, they'll just tell you to "Shu'up". Mentored by Tulisa in 2011, I think you can guess who they are!

Embracing their Troublemaker side, it's 2 Shoes!

2 Shoes
2 Shoes I don`t think that suited your voices very well. I thought the harmonizes were good, but it sounded too young for your voices, and your voices are quite deeper. I was really excited for you aswell, but you have let me down!!!

I'm gonna have to disagree with Pingu here. I'm actually glad that Tom gave you that rendition of the song as I think with great choices like that, you could be the best duo we've ever heard. Loved the song choice, loved the style, possibly my favorite performance so far tonight. Well done to you both.

This is my 2000th post on the Forum, just noticed

Not too troublesome for our judges, but 2 Shoes's fate lies with the public. If you love the girls and want to see more, rank them high in your votes!

Staying in Essex, we go to one of Ms Nicole Scherzinger's Boys from last year, now mentored by Pingu. First out from the 2012 Boys, despite being in the Quarter Final, he's back and ready to win over DS.

He wants to Promise This (his victory that is), it's Rylan Clark!

Rylan
Go Rylan. Go Rylan. You have just brought the fun to the x-factor, and your vocals were quite good in my opinion. It was such a good performance Rylan, and for me the best of the night so far. I am so proud of you Ry and I hope the public vote for you!!!

*dancing in seat* RYLAN!! Drop me outttt!!! *laughs* very good, very fun, I would LOVE to see you do a ballad one week, I get that is not you, but just to prove to some people that you can sing, so yeah, I’d love you to do a ballad! Tonight, very nice, good production, you delivered it well, congrats!!

Well first of all, I commend your mentor for taking a huge risk with you and when you're involved, a guilty pleasure isn't far away. However for me, I didn't like that song and I felt that the way you were singing it just felt wrong. It seems that you're not gonna be taken seriously for this game and I can't see you lasting long after tonight. Very disappointed.

Did Rylan put the "Fun" in "X Factor" (not sure there is a fun in X Factor but oh well) for you? If so, make sure you rank him highly in your votes at the end of the show.

Back with the Girls and it's one of Dannii Minogue's 2009 Girls who was a Bottom Two fiend for her stint in the show (but managed to come 1st one week) before her elimination. She's not really had much success outside the show, but she's back to try and get some recognition!

Please welcome our newly instated Commander, it's Rachel Adedeji!

Rachel
Rachel I have never seen you used in a competition before so I am quite excited. That suited you and your voice to a tea, and the best outside my category. It was quite predictable but I suppose it has to be with this theme. A very good choice from your mentor!!!
