If they put Peter C in the Anniversary episode, they'd pretty-much be forced to include him in any "First 50 Years" merchandising, promos etc - and I get the impression that stuff was all planned and signed for long before he was even cast.

Can you imagine the reaction if hardcore fans buy "A complete history" book or similar only to find that it fails to mention a major character like the 12th Doctor who DID appear during those 50 years?

I reckon they'll say that the first 50 years is Bill > Matt - and not risk complicating matters. In fact, I can't see them doing ANYTHING that is hugely significant in terms of DW "lore" - so no "half human" or "The Tardis is actually the Doctor's Mother's soul and the Master is his brother" garbage to re-write that history.”

Hasn't this happened with the introduction of John Hurt's Doctor though?

do you not think maybe the 50th and also 'The name of the Doctor' is all leading up to one big reset button?

Afterall if it was the Doctors dead spirit we saw then we'd see not just Capaldi's Doc there but also all the other Docs after him... So a simple conclusion is that Matt's doc is implied as being the last one ( emphasised with the crack in the Tardis window ) but the 50th special is all about altering things so that Trensalor doesn't happen...

A few statements have had me wondering.. 'we'll finally get an answer to a long unanswered question...' and 'it might be controverial and could divide fans'...

can't help thinking all the past incarnations are going to be wiped from history and a big reset button is where we are heading....
