Japan
I've been listening to some of my old Japan albums, and they sound as good as I remember them. From the more angular earlier albums, though to the ambient feel of the later albums, they managed to keep up the quality. With a lot of post punk and 80s sounds being borrowed at the moment, I wondered if anyone knew of a current band to have a healthy Japan influence? I'm sure it's only a matter of time if there isn't one....

Ahh, yes. Night Porter is still one of only a handful of songs capable of reducing me to tears (well, almost).
Groups like the Killers, the Bravery and the Modern are going for that 80's retro sound, but none of them seem to have quite got it right. There's something quite pleasant and yet discomforting about new acts plagiarising my past heroes and giving them a bit of a modern twist. IMO, the Faint do it best and they're criminally ignored. |

I agree with you there. 'Agenda Suicide' is a fantastic song, easily the equal of anything from the 80s. Their latest album is good too. I like the way they've incorporated more strings, but it sounds like a natural evolution. It's usually pretty obvious when a band have added something to their sound for the sake of it. It just sounds forced and disjointed. Ladytron do the 80s thing well also. The Network are worth checking out too, if you like Devo (the members of Green Day, and allegedly two members of Devo).
