I'd love Shirley to be in the Vic, she's had a hard few years and now it'd be great to have her get her life on the mind, onwards and upwards!

It seems like their making Linda the new Kat, if you'd like. It be fun to see Shirley behind the bar, can't see her being landlady or have her name over the door.

She won't be landlady but she will be a barmaid I'd imagine, she was great as a barmaid in her early days of the soap

But she's a two bit lush. How could she be trusted behind the bar of a pub. You might as well get a fox to look after the chickens.

So how much potential does the Carter family have? as big as the Watts, Mitchells?

Shirley is a creature of the gutter. Due to her aggressive personality she shoots herself in the foot continually and ends up the bottom of the pile.

She is one of lifes losers.

Queen Shirley? When was she ever a queen? Or do you mean the Queen of the Gutter?

On a serious note, looks like DTC is pulling out all the stops to make Shirley relevant on the show. She pretty much lost her relevance after her children left and became the Mitchell terrier, and she became even more irrelevant when she turned into a bitter, revenge-thirsty loner. So this move to integrate her family into the show could be good. Knowing Shirley, she will strut around the Vic like a Queen and expect her brother and wife to give her free drinks .

No, Shirley belongs in the gutter . She is no queen .

Quite right too. She brought the little brat up. They should provide her with a free lunch every day too

Shirley brought up Mick? Is that what they said? The article I read just says they've been estranged for years and Mick has been with his wife since he was a teenager.
I just can't imagine Shirley being responsible enough to raise a kid. After all, she abandoned her own children.

Shirley should pay like the rest of the punters. I'm sure Linda will make sure she does pay seeing as they don't on well

I read that Shirley brought them up after their mother walked out. She is 13 years his senior. She doesn't get on with his wife but Mick has always looked up to her. She should have her own reserved table

me and vald knew for ages she brought them up or at least helped

this was when she was a teenager. she left kevin because of raising mick and tina. she did what her own mother did which is usually the norm about other characters

So she left her children to raise her siblings? Why not just raise all of them together?

I'm not convinced. Shirley left Kevin because she couldn't cope being a mother to three kids - one of whom was disabled. She wanted to have a easy life and a good time. That's what she pretty much said at the time. There was no mention of her siblings.

I think there'd be a tad bit of retconning going on if what you say turns out to be true.

no she left mick and tina when things got too much. then the same happened with deano, carly and jimbo when jimbo got sick. its why shes always found it hard connecting to children and being a mother. its not cos shes a bad person, shes just not very maternal because of what happened when she was a kid

thankyou !! mick is a retcon. shirley helping or raising tina isnt.

i assume she uses that as an excuse to cover up everything that happened. she obviously did leave kevin and co cos she wanted an easy life after them and her siblings. she clearly didnt have a very good childhood

Oh, I see. I understand now. So it seems like DTC is trying establish this pattern of abandonment with Shirley. She abandoned her siblings, then she abandoned her kids.

Makes sense. That's actually interesting. I hope they explore this theme in her character. Yes, I guess some women just aren't maternal no matter how hard they try.

Yeah, I meant only Mick really. Why you saying thank you?

i wouldnt say she particularly abandoned tina. mick might have left on his own accord. she and tina are stil close so if she did leave through choice and tina being left on her own they wouldnt have kept in touch. its just when things got too much with her kids it was too much after raising tina and mick.

have a look in the shirley and the vic thread

She did that last time she was at the Vic. Service with a snarl.

I don't think she abandoned her siblings but her mother abandoned them and left Shirley to bring the two little ones up. It just seems that Shirley followed the same pattern as her mother with her own children.

I can see some great one liners from Shirley once she's behind that bar
