Agreed. 4 studio albums, wasn't it? Also factor in how they had King Crimson's lyricist writing for them...

1988.

She can't even get Kylie's hits in the right order. She's just said "you followed it with The Locomotion and then I Should Be So Lucky. NO! her debut hit was I Should Be So Lucky, and anyone worth their pop pedigree should know that! I wish Kylie had picked her up on it.

Atrocious choice of favourite 80's record - I Would Die 4 U.

Good point - although Kylie's cover of Locomotion was recorded first of all - SAW just released it later after ISBSL

The interviews with these 80's acts are so short & superficial. Just listened to last weeks one with the excellent Hazel O'Connor. "Did you have fun making that film?" she asked when mentioning Breaking Glass. One of the naffest questions you can ever ask, surely?

Another poor offering, music OK but Sara's lack of 80's musical knowledge is almost embarrassing. To not recognise the opening bars of Slade's Run Run Away and to think it may be Sade really shows that she really has a pretty poor musical grasp of the decade and has zero input to the music played.

...And I'd don't give a stuff about the state of her barbecue!

While I agree about Sara, I'm hoping listener figures aren't falling. I'd sooner have the show than not.

Just caught up with Saturday's show. I'm glad that Sara got Kylie to mainly stick to her 80s career, though it was a given that her new album and The Voice would be mentioned. Downloaded her new album and think it's the best she's done for awhile - I also downloaded George Michael's live album. It would be great if she could get him on the show sometime, and looking foward to the doco tonight. Some good guests coming up - Green from Scritti Politti and Debbie Harry, and I'm sure Holly Johnson will agree to be on the show at some point.

Dave Pearce dance years was far better, especially in this slot.

Now he has a show being syndicated at the same time on Commerical Radio I cannot see that one coming back on R2 anytime soon.

Looking online, this is the first open discussion about the show displayed. It would be really nice if Sara checked in and added to the discussion - just to let us know what is planned or for any requests - things like that. Perhaps Sara does read?

Agree, right time, right show and he knows what he is talking about.

When that show ended last autumn just before Sounds Of The 80's took the slot, I heard him say that the show would be back in April 2014. Whether in the same slot or a new one was not made clear.

Looks like that was a big NO then.....poor Al.

Enjoyed the Donald Fagen tracks from The Nightfly. They just sound so right at that time late in the evening.

Amused that she quite rightly cut short the terrible trash that Green Gartside chose as his record of the 80's. Such a wealth of riches to pick from the decade and he chose that drivel called Sucker MC's. Was he inebriated when he picked it? It was an embarrassment and had it played much longer just about every last listener would have deserted Radio 2 long before midnight. But what a great record Wood Beez is and it brings back memories of a scorchingly sunny Easter 1984.

Always one to be fair, and as I had not heard the track before the short play on Sounds Of The 80's I decided tonight to search out and listen to the whole track on headphones intently to pass a proper judgement.......it's still trash. I cannot believe that track is from 1984, it sounds like the kind of thing that could have come out just last week by some 25 year old bore! Grandmaster Flash is as far as I am willing to concede going in this kind of direction from 1982/84, with The Message & White Lines.

"Suzanne Vega looks back at her success in the 1980's" the website for the show says. Well that will be quite a brief interview then. She had very little worth noting. Infact her only really sizable hit came in 1990 with Tom's Diner.

Hmm - yeah. Good point. She was a bit of a one-hit wonder...

Suzanne Vega's first album (1985) went platinum in the UK and featured arguably her greatest song Marlene On The Wall. I'm sure 2 of her singles, Left Of Centre and Luka were minor hits here as well, whereas in the States the latter got to no 3 on Billboard and earned 3 Grammy nominations in 1987. Tom's Diner was a load of drivel imo, ..just a lighthearted gimmick which somehow caught on. So no one hit wonder. Does Sara Cox play anything other than the most feeble dance or disco pop stuff from the 80s? Has she ever featured any rock acts like U2, the Smiths etc? They weren't exactly minor acts in the 80s.

Toms Diner.....originally an acappella track, and minor hit in 1987

Only a big hit [2] when the producers DNA put the vocal over a laid back dance beat

Rich you have been very critical about Sara's knowledge and then you come up with nonsense like this. Suzanne Vega had 3 Top 40 hit singles and 2 hit albums in the decade. 1 of those albums "Solitude Standing" got to No.2 in the album chart. The Tom's Diner track was a remix of a track that was on that 1987 album "Solitude Standing". So she was fairly successful commercially in the 80's.

Although i like the music played on this show, i find Sara's lack of knowledge about the tracks embarrassing for her. I don't object to her personal chit chat though, she's only trying to cosy up to us, the listeners, at that time of night.

At least there's a good producer picking some great tracks. Shame I usually drift off as soon as my head hits the pillow. 9-11 would suit me better

Which RUN DMC track got played? I really like them in the late 80's. Didn't like Wood Beez at the time but got into it later.

I heard the first 30 minutes of the show whilst driving back home last night. It's such a shame that you can tell Sara is simply reading the comments from a screen about the artists, I'm sure there are plenty more out there that would know this information from their knowledge and have stories to share a la Johnnie Walker and Brian Matthews as they were around the music scene at the time of the music they feature.

I did not hear the Run DMC track but I will stick my neck out and say I bet it was Walk This Way.
