I imagine a fair number of people bought the single on multiple formats. It was available on cassette, plain 7", picture disc 7" and a variety of mixes on a number of 12" singles.

ZTT, their label, really were the innovators of multi-format marketing. 'Relax' was available in at least 8 different versions (again a cassette version, 7", 12", remix 12" and picture disc 7" and 12") and for 'Two Tribes' I've counted at least 11. And that's before you take into account that sometimes the same edition of their singles (especially 'Relax') were issued in more than one picture sleeve. With 'The Power Of Love' ZTT seemed to calm down to a more sensible 7 versions...”

Not so long ago I paid for and downloaded one of the 12" versions I'd originally bought and the single all over again. I'm not normally such a sucker like that either!

Right then, I need to go off to that "Growing Fears Of World War 3" thread chat in the general discussion section, where I have already mentioned 1984 and Two Tribes in passing!

Started listening back to the show today, got as far as her first link - typically inane rubbish - and off it went. Nothing personal to Cox - and she may be very good in other slots - but she's abysmal on this show.

Everyone knows US President Ronald Reagan, but just how many people would even be able to name that Soviet Leader in the Frankie video and on the record sleeves nowadays. He was very short lived in the job, basically just 1984 itself really. He was Konstantin Chernenko. Probably the least remembered Soviet leader of them all, and it happened during the Frankie era and he got on video's and record sleeves.

Was the Two Tribes 12" the Annhilation Mix? That was voted the best 80s 12" in Classic Pop magzine recently.

Just been catching up with Saturday's show and, after the revelation about her toes, Sara didn't seem to talk anymore about herself, what she'd been up to with her kids, etc. Therefore I enjoyed the show more than I have done for a while.

I know it's due to being of a similar age, but I shared Sara's excitement about Faith being the featured album. Shame that I Want Your Sex wasn't chosen as one of the tracks, though.

I always enjoy hearing Andy McCluskey interviewed. He's got such an ego, though he'd be the first to say that himself. Souvenir is an criminally underplayed 80s masterpiece.

I also enjoyed hearing The Village People making their debut on the show, though i could only name two of them!

I am, just about. Not as enthusiastic about it as I was when it began last October, but tonight she has got the one and only Debbie Harry as her guest!

What happened to that good little feature where she was having a short phone chat with an 80's one hit wonder, like Aneka in the first show? Seems to have been quietly dropped.

Just checked what she played last week with the copy I have and it was indeed the Annihilation 12" version that was played last week Clare.

Maybe the phone calls were too expensive.

How did Sting go from some of those great Police tracks of barely a couple of years before, to this woeful drivel, Love Is The Seventh Wave, from her album of the week, Dream Of The Blue Turtles in 1985.

Cracking album Dream of the Blue Turtles, not sure why Cox is playing Love is the 7th Wave, Russians and Fortress Around Your Heart are far better tracks, one of which we won't get.

Something tells me after listening to the interview, it was a bit of a disaster. Normally during the show Sara would be excited about the upcoming interview (mentioning it quite a few times) but she didn't this time. During the interview I felt Sara inserting random things in the interview (Daniel Radcliffe at Glastonbury), didn't exactly interest Debbie (and I think Debbie had heard all the same questions before)

It wasn't just me then!

This interview fell really flat. This was one of her BIGGEST guests yet, probably her most esteemed but you'd never have guessed it. Maybe the interviewee was simply bored, she didn't seem enraptured with her interviewer and maybe picked up on a lack of research and didn't respect that. Her early question "when the 80's came along did that mean a new direction for Blondie" was somewhat trite, and Debbie shot it down instantly.

It was very disappointing.

I don't think Debbie Harry is a very good interviewee though. I've heard interviews she's done in the past where she's sounded disinterested. And I would imagine she's probably been asked the same questions that many times over the years that she's bored with having to answer them.

I agree it is a good album and it's one of those albums that when listening to it takes me back to a certain place and time. For this album, it takes me back to my early days of living in London. One of my fellow trainees in the job I had just joined had the album and taped it for me and I would regularly listen to it going to work. Listening to the album still reminds me so much of walking from the accomodation I was living in in Belsize Park, London to Finchley Road tube station and then getting the tube to Dollis Hill before finishing the journey off on the 226 bus that I can still almost picture the journey when the album is playing. This was in November and December 1985 and January 1986. That's what I call real nostalgia inducing!

I've always thought the Police were one of the more calculating, cynical bands who were happy to jump on the new wave bandwagon with a deliberate look and style to appeal to teenagers and the naive, although they weren't the only ones. I found they generally became tedious to listen to. As for Sting - one of the more smug, annoying artists in the business would be hard to find. Keewayooooh!!! Ugh!

A distinctly camp and late 80's biased show last night, with the bulk of the tracks post 1985, just a measly 3 tracks tracks pre 1983 (the best end of the 80's).

Is this because MsCox and her producer don' t recall the early part of the decade?

Had great hopes for this show, but it its decended into camp farce, is her producer the same as Ken Bruce's because the choice of music is similar?

Looking at the posts in this thread it looks like interest in this programme has waned severely over the past couple of months.

To be honest I keep forgetting about the programme being on and last night I wouldn't have listened anyway due to the England match being on the TV but it certainly hasn't turned out to be the programme it could have been and has, on the whole, been something of a disappointment.

I'm still listening, but only listen live now if it's one of those red button specials.
I thought when Sara's name was mentioned in connection with the X-factor there might be some comments on here as to who might take over her show if she had to leave. I hope they wouldn't pre-record if she did get theh X-factor gig.

This thread has died a death, seemingly like the interest in Sounds Of The 80's.

Keicar states that one show was top heavy with late 80's tracks. A big mistake and enough to turn me right off, and I have not bothered for about 5 or 6 weeks now. As Robbie correctly states, this show began very promisingly but has tailed off badly recently, with the presenter shortcomings glaring and far too much twaddle of no interest relating to the shows remit. I've just turned on and haven't heard a record for about 2 minutes now while she rattles on about herself and the school run.

This show isn't about Sara Cox, it is about MUSIC IN THE 1980's, and that is why listeners tune in!

I still enjoy the show (Liked Alphaville's Big In Japan (12inch) tonight!) but noticed lately that the show has an obsession with Belinda Carlisle. Every couple of weeks another track by her gets played. Can we have something a little different and give Belinda a rest?
