Funny how the stuff from the 80s has some of us picking up air instruments...
Compared to the stuff from now..

This interview with Sheila E is leaving me a bit cold to be honest. She's not very interesting to me, unlike all the previous guests so far. I'm not the biggest Prince fan either.

Bucks Fizz, now you are talking 80's. Great they are being played. One of the raunchy period hits, Jay Aston in mind on Run For Your Life.

Be nice to hear Cheryl, Mike or Jay.....or even Bobby come on as a guest in future weeks. Guess the likeliest would be Cheryl or Mike if they did. Bucks Fizz are great. I've got every 80's single in my CD/digital collection without shame. I took their Greatest Hits CD around to a friend about 5 years ago, and she was so impressed that I had to make her a full copy to continue playing after I had left.

Until today I'd never heard of Cock Robin or the hit 'The Promise You Made'. A great song and all thanks to Sounds of the 80s!

I'll give you a couple more of my own personal favourites as a recommendation to check out that I bet you'll love too if you haven't heard them before, and both never get heard anymore despite being hit singles, one of them a top ten hit.

Mobiles - Drowning In Berlin, a No9 hit from February 1982.

Passions - I'm In Love With A German Film Star, a No25 hit from February 1981.

Both are forgotten classics of the 80's. I hope they get played on this show sometime.

As usual, fell asleep not long into the last hour of the show, so have got to catch up on iplayer at some point. I don't really know anything about Sheila E, apart from that song Belle Of St Mark, so I'm looking forward to hearing it again.
I wasn't aware of that Cock Robin song, until it always kept being requested on Real's High School Days. That Passions song I didn't know until it was featured on the brilliant Ashes To Ashes.
BTW, anyone who likes this show might like Richard Green's retro show on radio Devon 1-2pm Saturdays. Same sort of format - 80s hits (including a 12") and an interview with an 80s star.

It's great that they're including "forgotten" stuff along with the usual 80's output. This is a great song.

Two great songs. Can't believe that The Passions only reached number 25 as it's a great song.

The Mobiles must have been around as a similar time to Monsoon which we mentioned previously.

Hope that both get an airing soon

Looks like I am going to have to set aside time to listen to this show, loving the tracks listed on this thread, Cock Robin in particular is one of the decades best songs.

I bought it at the time, a travesty it only got to No.28, for such a 'turntable hit' its somewhat strange that its hardly played on the radio.

As far as lost 80's go, this was somewhat higher in the chart in the same week as Cock Robin, it got to No.7 but I cannot recall hearing it on the radio since 1986.

One of the follow ups to The Promise You Made is worth checking out-Just Around The Corner. It wasn't a UK hit but was in much of Europe in 87

From this very same weeks chart back in 1986 was played the Nu Shooz track last weekend, plus when Boy George was on the first show a month ago he picked yet another track as his favourite of the 80's from this chart, Furniture's Brilliant Mind. There's another top ten single from this chart that never seems to be heard anymore either, Calling All The Heroes by It Bites. I don't think the Sly Fox top three hit gets played much either anymore, despite being pretty decent.

From the same chart Camouflage by Stan Ridgeway and Amityville by Love Bug Starski, both unheard for years (although not a great fan of the latter).

Bucks Fizz and Wham! also made their last chart showing.

Calling All The Hero's was indeed a great track as was the follow up A Whole New World which didn't chart.

The latter part of '86 did yield some good tracks, the death twitch of the UK charts?

As you know, both me and you tend to agree on this point at around late '86 into early '87. For me, and I guess yourself, the 80's were a 7 year long decade. Let's face it, much of the music in Sounds Of The 80's is indeed coming from the first half.

If the ALBUM of the week is The Works, why has she just played the single version of I want to break free?

That's what I thought. I'm guessing the other 2 tracks will be Radio Ga Ga & It's a Hard Life, which are presumably already there.
