I'm thinking about changing my main provider from Giffgaff to somebody else because they don't seem to be the most reliable network. I have just ordered the 321 PAYG sim from Three to see how I get on with their network but I am wondering what are they like as a service provider? Do they offer good customer service? Am I better off looking elsewhere?

In short, Yes. They're the best network to be on right now if you get coverage in your area

You will be fine as long as your local mast doesn't develop a fault. They took 3 months to fix my local mast. It's fine again now though.

I grumbled about a borked mast just along the road from the office and it magically came back to life within a couple of days!

Guess it depends whats wrong with it in the first place....

Three is definitely the best network to be on right now, instantly you'll notice improvements in call quality and data!

I lost my 3 phone 2 days ago and have been using my O2 backup and its so noticeable how crap O2's 3G network actually is.

Firstly it sometimes sounds like im a robot to people on the other end, and there are small interruptions in the call and im told to I need to repeat myself as the line is really poor even on 4 bars 3G.

Just as long as you get good coverage on Three in the areas you go, you'll be much happier,

Order a free PAYG sim to give it a check: https://www.three.co.uk/Support/Free_SIM/Order

It also says you're in Wales which is a bad area on all networks, so as I said its best to check with a free PAYG card first.

hope it helps

I keep looking at 3 network but doesn't it drain the phone battery quicker?

At work i have my phone set to 2g then swap to 3g on my breaks. Does being permanently on 3g suck the life out of it?.

I have to say switching network mode regularly is a very odd thing to do. If you have a reasonable 3G signal it shouldn't be an issue, maybe you need a new battery or a better phone first!

depends on the phone I guess, if it a quality phone it shouldn't really matter.

I can go a whole day on normal usage of fb, youtube, calls, texts, whatsapp, games etc and still be around 20-30% at the end of the day.

Cant you charge your phone at work?

Well other networks have 2G fall back at a lower frequency, so if the other poster gets 2G signal from the other networks then they may have no signal issues with 3. Has to be tested using a PAYG sim to know for sure.

I suppose.

Signal in my flat is terrible. But it's terrible on all networks. Nature of the building and it's location ...

Not necessarily - when a friend of mine switched from giffgaff to Three his battery has ended up lasting a third longer on Three than it ever did on giffgaff.

The fact remains three work on 2100 MHz. Try and get a reception in a building in The city of London (square mile) you will struggle. I like three they are maverick and different, they are also competitively priced but it's only fair that a balanced opinion is given, when you look at three's prices, they seem cheap but people need to remember the following

1. Tethering is only permitted on the one plan.
2. All customer services are based overseas
3. Indoor coverage isn't as good as the other networks.
4. Tariffs don't include any wifi or any other benefits.

Take a look at the iphone 5s on three compared to EE they really aren't that cheap.

One plan on 3 vs EE 4G 10 gb data plan

£42 per month. £46 per month
£99 for phone. £49 for phone
Unlimited data. 10 gb data
NO WIFI. Includes wifi
Includes Deezer
Uk call centre
2G backup
Double speed 4G

And it's rated better than EE's customer service...

Your post is highly bias as it's only comparing one phone.

When you look at the Huawei Ascend P2 or the newly released LG G2 it's a whole other story. Or compare SIM only and tell me how £21pm for 500mb is better than £15pm for unlimited.

Three's plans include 4G from December as well.

UK call centre means nothing, as EE in my books is the worst customer service I've ever dealt with in my life. They are rude, they LIE through their teeth, and they have a very laid back "cant be bothered" attitude, on my than one occasion.

I've also had been put through to indian call centres while calling EE.

With EE also you don't just have the added benefit of the worst customer service ever, but dropped calls and calls going to voicemail even though you have bars on your phone.

What do you need wifi if you have unlimited data and unlimited tethering?

I have a One Plan SIM on a rolling 30 day contract.

UL data. Dunno what the minutes/texts limits are but in the thousands and WAY more than I'll ever need. UL tethering. Had to use their CS a couple of times and they were fine. Efficient and helpful. So what if they're in India? Doesn't bother me.

£18 a month. (£15 if you are OK with a 12 month contract instead of the 30 day roller)

Can EE get anywhere near that?

You're right about the 2G fallback though. That is their achillies heel ...

Not sure why anyone needs Wi Fi on an unlimited data plan with how wide spread the 3G is anyway so that not really a negative to be honest. Three's Indoor coverage should increase dramatically in London in December when they turn on 4G 1800MHz. So EE will offer only faster speeds signal should be pretty similar. Think you will find that EE has far worse customer service compared to Three as well so that isn't a plus either. I agree that 2G backup is a short coming but that is only a matter of time now before even that is resolved.

The advantages of EE are to be clear. Better 4G coverage at moment and 2G backup and double speeds [Though unless you tethering little point of that one].

No, Just use Hullomail.

There is no limit on the one plan.

Here is evidence of a high usage scenario-

Wow that is an insane amount of usage I don't think I use that much on my home broadband a month.
