Google search won't talk back
Hi all,
I'm using a tablet with Jellybean and have noticed when searching by voice on Google I get no "talk back" to my search results? I did a bit of research and have checked the media volume and that's fine and have also tried setting the voice to different language. Nothing seems to fix this. Is there another setting somewhere I'm missing? All the apps are updated to the latest versions and even tried asking the famous 'who is the president of the united states' and nothing happens. Any help would be great! Thank you |

Do you get an information card with the info on it (like so), or just a standard web search for "who is the president"?

Yeah it displays the card shown but no voice responds. |

Okidoke. Let's keep digging, then
![]() 1) Does voice output work full stop? (Settings > Language & Input > Text-to-speech Output > Listen to an example) 2) Is the Language for TTS Output the same as the general language for the phone, or at least the language for Google Search? 3) Have you tried downloading a new TTS engine? (I recommend IVONA while it's free - it's a big package so a few minutes to download but nothign to lose by trying) |

Thanks,
I checked those settings and they seem fine. I also installed the TTS pack (the Amy one 145MB) and checked the settings. Stikk no voice. All the settings are on UK. |

Okidoke again. My final suggestions, in order of drasticness:
1. Settings > Apps > Google Search > Force Stop, Clear Data and Clear Cache 2. Same as 1. but Uninstall Updates, and try again before letting the phone install those updates again. 3. Remove your Google Account, clear data from the Google Play Services "app", then reapply your Google Account. If none of those work, my only other suggestion is a factory reset - but hopefully someone will be along with something less drastic you could also try... |

Thanks,
I tried the above and finally a factory reset and still no voice back.I'm totally lost as to why there isn't a talk back after doing a voice search! I've not changed any settings since the reset, apart from the voice open to 'always' from 'informative only' I think its called. I've updated the Google search application and have Google now running on it. I'm just lostvss to why the voice isn't working. I'm not sure what else to try. |
