No joke act this year?
Seems a bit odd, considering over the last few years we've had Wagner, Frankie Cocozza and most recently Rylan...
The only person I can think of who comes close to being the joke act this year is Giles, in my opinion he's nowhere near as good as the judges say he is! They could bring back Souli Roots as a wildcard though, wouldn't surprise me! What do you guys think? |

Why is a joke act important to have though as it spoils things as people start voting for them to take the piss

I was surprised Louis never put the yodeller through since it is usually him picking the joke acts.

Yup, exactly. The producers are heartless, horrible pricks.

I think after Baloney and Rylan coming so close to winning it last year they rethought that strategy. One year the joke act would probably have won it or come very close.

Was Rhydian portrayed by the show as a joke act or a pantomime villain??

I think they will try and make one of the boys/girls a "bad boy/girl" type for the "character of the year"! However, I think the camp, crappy singer joke acts reached saturation point and were becoming detrimental to the show!

Yes, yes it is funny... sometimes. When a joke act wins out against a producer favorite for example. Just watching Simon's plans unravel is always fun.
![]() 1) More publicity for the show 2) More money from the phone lines 3) He'll give record deals to the other "proper" acts anyway |

Christ almighty. If Im not mistaken, the bootcamp showed Judges making extremely difficult decisions live in front of a audience, whilst there could have been a list, the couldnt and wouldnt risk it. Besides would Gary have stuck just being a puppet for the producers. In my mind, that clearly scripted moment when they smashed cups etc in front of that Guy who thought he was a rocker, showed that they cant act at all!!! |

The show's hilarious anyway. Why do you need a joke act?

Haven't watched the XF this year so I don't know the format of the show but there is no way there won't be a joke act. If there's a wildcard or whatever the producers will ensure a joke act gets through that way.

How about a Phil Collins ballad for the 80s? Against All Odds perhaps.

And your evidence is???
Who goes through to the final is a business decision which the success of the show depends on, producers are not going to let judges mess it up. Perhaps the Judges are part of the discussion process to some extent. Do you really think Louis Walsh thought Wagner could be the next big thing? No, but he was the one the producers could make take him as the other judges wouldn't have wanted to look silly and he had the least cool reputation. It would be beyond moronic to leave the decisions totally in the judges hands. |
