it wont come to that long dont plan on sticking around for unemployed for 12months since i am looking for temp work so that i can save up and apply to teach english in japan (jet japan google it) so that i can escape this country and its system

thing is more likley i will get work myself as i get phone calls every few days with result so i can get a job within a few months

also i apply like 100 jobs a week and i never ever print out job emails or print job application

also i am be working for royal mail for xmas and volunteering at citzens adice soon enough anyway so i dont need to show evidence anyway of doiing this online to prevent from waisitng printer paper and ink

It's very easy and simple then

Attend interview and set out what you are going to do

Sign on every 2weeks and show proof you are doing this (usually six jobs/week, just write this on a piece of paper)

at xmas, sign off, tell them you have a job

It depends what websites you are using to apply for your jobs.

This is a bit like pulling teeth.

I specifically asked my advisor about volunteering hours recently and was told I could do unlimited hours, it would not affect my claim.

You will work out and agree on a Jobseeker's Agreement with your adviser, which will contain:-

Three types of job that you want to apply for.
When you are willing to start work (ie Immediately).
Any days or hours you cannot work.
Any other work restrictions.
The websites you are going to regularly search for jobs on.
Where you will work (ie Within 90 minutes each way from home via public transport).


If you have long term illnesses or injuries (eg back problem) that might restrict the work you can do, it's best to tell them about it straight away.

Entirely depends on your adviser. Some are certainly better then others. You HAVE to make sure you never lose your signing on card. Keep it safe and ALWAYS bring it with you. If you don't they might consider that an infraction and sanction you for it. Don't let the JC find anything to pull you on.

You will be asked to sign a Job seekers agreement with requirements you need to complete between signing on. Don't think this is unalterable. Agree to something reasonable depending on your circumstances and means to complete. If you find it too hard don't be afraid to speak to your adviser about altering the agreement if you struggle with the initial one.

The agreement should include three job roles/areas you would look at and what sort of activity you need to perform on a weekly basis. For me I agreed to 5 days a week to look on UJM and indeed and one day a week to look at my local paper. (The one I chose has an online site to save buying the paper itself)

If you are out of work for I think it's 3 months they will sign you onto a work program with an outside source. You will be signed onto the provider for 2 years. It's potluck whether you get a good or bad one.

For waiting times you will be given a set time every other week to sign on. Try and get there on time but be prepared for a loooooong wait. I would suggest a bottle of water as my local Job center is quite warm.

Ultimately it is a very dull process.

And something else
You CANNOT do a full-time course and sign on. Not allowed to.
You can do a part-time course and voluntary work but needs to be less then 16 hours a week.
They expect you to spend a minimum of 2 hours a day on job searching. If you're lucky. What they really want is for you to chain yourself to job search for the rest of your life on JSA

Also, it's now mandatory to set up a Universal Jobmatch account on the gov.uk site. That'll also be one of the sites you're expected to search for jobs on.

EDIT Actually I have to search four sites weekly. gov.uk and Indeed five times each, and two other lesser sites three times each. I also have to write to one employer, phone one employer, and send off two speculative CVs. As well as ask friends etc. (but that's long dead).

You don't need to waste ink and paper printing your job search you can record everything on your Universal Jobmatch account in the activity section.

Your volunteering for "ciztens advice beureua" might not get off to a good start, have you got your start date yet and your name down for the training?
