Sam Bailey singing I Have Nothing by Whithey Houston at Judges Houses
I like Sam, I think she is a really good singer, but I am getting a little bit tired of hearing Whitney by just about every female singer with a loud voice. I hope this does not go on through out the live shows, it would be unbearable!

Didn't click your link but just thought oh no not again when I read the thread title.
I wish they'd ban Whitney. |

It is getting tiresome now with people singing Whitney or Mariah songs but Fauod's version of Hero in the auditions a few years back was something else

Maybe we could request the yodeller to do I Will Always Love You and Souli Roots to give us her version of The Greatest Love Of All.

This is how much better than these part time warblers Whitney Houston is. She can take even a rubbish song and move you to tears with it. I wish they'd unfrstand that picking a Whitney song doesn't make them as good as Whitney. Instead it highlights how poor they are in comparison. Whitney doesn't just belt it out. She has a whole array of vocal styles and techniques and a lot of subtlety in interpretation that the contestants don't come anywhere near. Funnily enough that Lydia had a lot of subtlety and variety in interpretation but her basic technique just wasn't solid enough imo.
Anyway, this is how great Whitney is. Boring song. Stupendous performance. Sold over a million copies. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_lCm...e_gdata_player |

I agree most posts say she is the next Tesco's Mary but to me she is the next Sami Brookes. I just can't imagine her being a success post show.

Well get used to it, the whole show will be about warbling, screeching and belting. To many similar female artists.

From what I have heard thus far, Sam has technically got one of the best "natural" voices to ever make the judges houses on the uk version of the show. She also puts a great deal into her performances, but doesn't overdo it too much. She has musicality and subtlety as well as reasonably good modulation to adorn that big, gorgeous voice of hers, and I like her.
While her voice doesn't have quite the agility of Leona, or the incredibly rich texture of Hannah, it is a clean, reasonably powerful and dynamic, even and clear toned, beautiful instrument, and if I had to make a bet who could nail a Whitney song this season, it would be Sam. My only criticism is that , because her voice is so good, she kind of coasts on that, and, while it's lovely to watch her joy when she gets into a song, she would do well IMO to try some risks and unique variations of melody/tempo/etc. She has the skills for it, and when she sings these big songs too straight just because it's fun when you have a huge voice and because she "can",it paradoxically can make a standout voice come off a bit karaoke/less serious. Not in the same way as a less gifted singer trying and not measuring up, but it can still be detrimental in the ears and view of some listeners/voters, not to mention those looking for something new in the artists they choose to work with. She is competing against others who could outlast her if she doesn't develop the rest of her stage skills as she has her wonderful vocals. |

i can understand she wants to sing a "safe" song at the JH to get to the LIves... i mean a song she knows so well and can sing in her sleep, lolz!! but i agree in the poster above, she needs to step up in challenging herself in the Lives to maintain interest of the voting public

Just the whole "big lass belting out diva songs" has become such an X factor cliche

It irks me when such a person is described as having "a big voice" or "a big personality". We all know what that really means. "bubbly personality"
