Must say Rhinoarse's daughter usually annoys me but she was actually not bad on Sunday.

To be fair, Michael Ball, when he has his presenting hat on, is actually very good at directing attention away from himself as a performer.

Fair point but I can't see Michael Ball committing three months' worth of Saturday nights for the next however many years Strictly runs for, as it would cut down his options in the West End, which is his day job is, so to speak. He may agree to host Strictly for one year but I don't see him agreeing to host it indefinitely.

Absolutely! He is a very successful singer and actor AND he has his radio work. Why on earth would he want to to SCD?

Bruce has no talent, can't sing and can't dance so it's probably his last gig and he took it because he knew he wouldn't get anything else.

An awful lot of the - very good - suggestions for replacements wouldn't touch it either, because they don't need to or want to.

Needs to be someone with experience of presenting a live show (ie can read an autocue; take instructions through an earpiece without the audience knowing; and cope when things go wrong). On the other hand, I'd prefer someone who isn't particularly well-known already, who can therefore grow into the role on their own terms.

It also has to be someone with a personality that will engage with the audience, but not such a powerful persona that the show becomes overwhelmed by it.

Offhand, I can't think of a single person (male or female) who might fit the bill...

The Scottish bloke? Darren McMullen. He's presented/presents a lot of Australian TV, such as their version of The Voice.

Someone similar to Phillip Schofield but far less annoying, perhaps. I would say John Leslie but the chances of him being offered a prime time tv slot are infinitesimal. Jamie Theakston - with Zoe Ball? Gethin Jones? Or they could just stick to Tess and Claudia.

Oh come on! I do agree with you re Michael Ball, I confess to being a big MB fan but it's unfair to say that Bruce has no talent. He hasn't had a 70 year old career with no talent! He's been very successful, is in fact multi-talented. It's just that now he's an old man and in my opinion should be replaced.

Bruce has made a career out of being a Jack of all Trades - and a master of none. He made his name in the era of variety where cast members were required to be able to sing dance , act and be funny, but didn't need to be particularly good at any of them - just be able to fill in as required eg dance and sing in the chorus, act as stooge for the comedian, be a passer by in a sketch etc etc. he wasn't particularly good at any of them. There's a clip of him attempting to sing and dance with his great pal Sammy Davis Jnr somewhere on YouTube - and you can see quite clearly just how mediocre Bruce is/ was when he's with a REAL star. He has a weak nasal singing voice, and is a mere hoofer in comparison to Sammy, who wipes the floor with him!

Since the 70s he has made his career as a presenter, thankfully sparing us (almost) from his attempts to sing and dance, and rather than hone his comedy he still thinks he can write funnier jokes than real scriptwriters like Barry Cryer etc.

He has just been very lucky in being in the right place at the right time..... There was something on another thread where apparently Bruce said in the 70s that his show biz career was over, and he was going to retire and run a post office....... What a shame some idiot at the BBC offered him the Generation Game - if they hadn't we might have been spared Brucie's "talents" for the last 40 years!

It could be a good idea to have someone like that who has had experience in presentation but is not as well known as Graham Norton etc. I think he lives in LA now.

I do agree but I can't see the bbc giving the job of hosting their flagship saturday show to a relatively unknown.

If it's peak ratings your after and a show that totally raises the bar in terms of co-presentation chemistry.

Bruce & Tess

Should BOTH be replaced by either:

Spoiler
John Mccririck & Germaine Greer

Or

Spoiler
Stephen Hawking & Jodie Marsh

Come to think of it ... yes, I can definitely see your point. And, yes, Sammy did wipe the floor with him and it was evident because I remember thinking so at the time.

I graciously concede defeat because on this occasion I think you are spot on.
