Hi, I'm after some help and advice regarding my home wi-fi. We have BT infinity broadband and a Home Hub 4. We can never get wireless signal in the main bedroom upstairs, this is the only room we can't get a signal in. You can't even pick up the router when it searches for wi-fi, finds absolutely nothing.

We were hoping to somehow boost the signal in this bedroom. We have gone around the house with ours phones & the iPad and we can get a signal in every other room upstairs & downstairs. The iPad on the odd occasion does pick up a very weak signal in the main bedroom but it is so slow when using I'm convinced there is no strength to it at all.

What are our options to boost/improve the signal in this one room upstairs? Any advice appreciated.

As rjb suggests a powerline device should do the job but if you're curious it might be worth just investigating as to why it's the case for just one room.

My guess is there's some kind of Faraday Cage effect going on - perhaps that room was replastered and the plasterboard had a metallic membrane? One thing to try would be to put the router in the room itself and then see if you can connect to it from the rest of the house. (There's no need for it to be connected to the internet - it'll still broadcast a wifi signal.) If you don't get a signal then you've somehow created a shielded room or witchcraft is involved....

Thanks for the advice. Will get investigating. The room with no signal is a new timber build extension so could be it's been extremely well insulated etc! Or maybe witches are involved

Ah - that could be it.

Modern insulation often has a foil/metallic layer to prevent heat loss via thermal (or infra-red) radiation. That layer will also stop other EM waves such wifi as well. (Any radio reception is probably due to a window.)
