A lot actually, end of the day you don't get many White contestants that can belt out songs as the majority of them are of Sub-African descent. I don't mean to be stereotypical here, but it is near enough guaranteed that if you have 3 contestants of that particular race, then at least 2 of them are going to belt out songs, sometimes shouty & screeching, sometimes in tune, but either way they are going to be loud & powerful. I don't know why this is, but history has taught us that the likes of Whitney, Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross have all had sets of lungs that the average white girl would never have.
But what this competition needs is major variation of styles of music, if they have all contestants of the same race, then it would be all the same styles of music & would make the competition rather boring. Not everyone likes the same old Urban / R'n'B tripe, I love Rock music & am a self confessed metal head, but I do like Reggae & Rap as well, other artists I love are P!nk, Lana Del Rey, even a bit of Adele every now & then. But what I cannot stand including teeny girl boy bands & the bombardment of artists that want to be the the next Whitney, Aretha, Emeli Sande & that awful Nicki Minger or whatever her name is.
The reason I loved Melanie & am glad that Abi got through, is because they are not belters & gave something different to the competition, hell I would have even been happy if Souli Roots made it through to the lives as I love reggae, but for belters we have :
Lorna
Hannah B
Tamera
Sam
Shelly
most of the members of Miss Dynamix
Basically half of the final acts are going to belt songs & most probably be given similar material to work with, which imho is more than enough. Not being funny or anything, but look at what happened to Alexandra Burke, she was set to be the next big thing, yet 5 years after winning the X factor, she has gone through at least 2 record labels & am unsure if she is currently signed or not, either way she wasn't the ultimate success that everyone thought she would be. I honestly feel that if there are too many belters, then they will face the same fate as they are not giving anything new to the industry.
All I can say is that we can only see how the finalists are treated by the producers & what material they are given to work with, but too much of the same thing will have me reaching for the mute button in quicker time than it took that p!ss soaked blanket Gary Barlow to upset Carol Decker, or in quicker time than it took Relly C to murder "Too many rivers to cross".
If Hannah B proves me wrong & provides something different each week, that has never been seen before in the X factor without shouting & gives something new to the competition, then I promise that I will be one of the first on here, creating a public apology thread for assuming what she was going to be like in the lives.
