Perhaps someone could explain what Melanie had? She doesn't have a "big powerful voice". She doesn't have "soul".
She doesn't have the musicality to write her own songs, play her own instruments that Abi does. So could someone explain what she has that makes people on here think she is anything more than a wedding singer? And that isn't being nasty. I feel for her being rejected 4 times. But there is a reason she isn't going through each time. And when I hear her, I just think she has nothing special whatsoever! |

Melanie wasnt special, there are loads of really good singers but it doesnt mean they would be a good popstar, they should be in theatres, session singers, cruise ships, wedding singers etc. Leona was so naive and quiet and shy but she'd open her mouth and start singing and you'd go wow and it didnt hurt that she was very good looking.
I think with Abi there is a lot of potential, she's a bit different and quirky, plays her own instruments- leaves me interested to see how she will progress during the live shows. |

There are loads of really good singers, but most are like Shelley . Melanie ,like Leona, has something more than that.(No, I would not put her in Leona's league, but she really is quite good) At the very least, she could do the higher end corporate type gigs and such, which can be quite lucrative. If not for X Factor, Leona may well have been doing the same. It's actually a better option, long term, than signing over your career and life in many instances, and many have chosen it over offers from major labels, etc. There are so many options, and while "good singers" who aren't outstanding in some way will likely end up struggling or working holiday camps and such, someone with real talent who has enough of the total package, is willing and able to learn to handle and understand more than just what goes on onstage, and treats it like a job is very likely to be able to make a real career of it.Melanie is as good as many who have been able to do this, and I hope she doesn't give up. |

surely this stage is about potential not the finished article? people just need a chance to develop and shine. not putting Melanie and Paul through was a little strange IMO but having heard the 'wildcard' twist, it seems it may well have been staged (again).

Whats wrong with being normal, sane and clean-living.Playing instruments is a common talent, Abi is boring and a one trick pony, just wait and see.The Xfactor is a flops graveyard. |

Soul my arsk, they will all be on the scrapheap next year bar some of the pretty boys.

And? Calling someone who plays instruments and writes their own material a one trick pony is silly when comparing to someone who so far has demonstrated only an ability to perform bland covers with no imagination. |

Most X Factor contestants end up doing little. But that doesn't answer the question. What does Melanie actually have going for her?

Take mazzy star for example, beautiful voice of Hope Sandoval. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S8QOaaoiT9U I would listen to that any day over a bunch off Whitney Houston covers. Performance can be so much more than dancing, choirs and fireworks. |

I do it myself, does not make me suited to the xfactor. The girl looks like an airy fairy , hippy dippy Sue Pollard, has a weak tinny voice and writes boring songs. There a few poor singers this year not just her and yet its supposed to be a singing contest , Dani Minogue told us,not a personality one. |

It was utterly brutal, my heart just broke for her. 4 years for absolutely nothing, and Kasim gets through without even going to New York!?!? WTF?! I can't imagine how Melanie felt watching that!
It's a demonstration of everything that's wrong with X Factor and the Music Industry. As Sinead O Connor said in her open letter to Miley Cyrus they prostitute you for all they can get and they don't give a sh*t about you. Melanie will go far on her own just as other runners up have. |

I really hope she does do well for herself - but she's not a runner-up. Olly Murs, One Direction, Cher Lloyd... they're successful runners-up, having been chosen for the live shows and coming in the top five of their series. Someone who didn't make it past Judges' Houses is not a runner-up.

I'm sure she's learned a few lessons from all this all the same. |

Seems they duped her though. She says she told them she was dropping out of the show this year but they begged her to reconsider, telling her her time had come etc : the gits did this solely to create their dramatic moment at JH (at her expense).
I'm sure she's learned a few lessons from all this all the same.

It may be a "singing contest" but to judge the "best singer" is subjective. |

hmmm technically yeah see your point. I just mean she clearly has the ability to go far on her own
![]() In fact I can't see her being able to do very much at all without being signed and having some songwriters behind her and a lot of cash. And there are plenty in that queue. Many with far more going for them. |

She is young but I'm sure she has learnt her lesson now - it'll be crazy for her to do this again. Anyway there might be a glimmer of a chance of a wildcard but we'll see

There's not a chance she will ever return to the show after that fiasco anyway. Looks like they'll have to find some other eejit to be their fall guy at Judges House next year (and to allow Nicole to switch on her crocodile tears of concern and empathy)

People saying Melanie should get the message now not to enter again, isn't that what life is all about not giving up on your dreams? I know she is putting herself trough torture poor girl, but this is what she wants to do so why should she give up. Many big names out there have being knocked down and told no before they got that big yes, so hopefully something will come her way some day. Jade has being on a few times now. personally i would not go trough it again and again.

I've a funny feeling she doesn't like Tamera as a person btw : she's going to have to use all her acting skills this year
