Looking for a tablet that has a cd/DVD drive (mainly to rip CDs onto my iPod)and that will also support iTunes and I can plug my camera and iPod in and can hold a gd about of memory. I know it's probs a long shot but does such thing exist?

Isn't that a laptop?

There's certainly a number of "convertible" laptops out there which can be configured as a "tablet" with an optical drive.

Don't think you're likely to get a proper tablet with an optical drive, though, cos it's quite a chunky bit of hardware which'd add to the bulk of the tablet, draw quite a bit of power and rarely get used.

You can buy USB optical drives for about £15.
Maybe a regular tablet would recognise one?

Windows 8 tablet, but with external CD/DVD drive. Not Windows RT tablet, that one will recognise audio CDs, but has no apps to work with them.

A Windows tablet with an external DVD-RW drive is the easiest route.

The 1GB disk is going to be an issue. Most tablets come with small SSD drives.

Not sure you can.

There have been ads on the telly for a laptop with detachable screen section. But that leaves the CD drive etc behind in the main body of the laptop.

Yeh I seen those ads, that's what I was thinking about. Do you know what are for or all about?

Surface Pro would be a good compromise here. It's basically a laptop in tablet form and is more like the Macbook Air 11" than the iPad but it runs Windows 8 It's full W8 so desktop programs will work on it. It even has a USB port so you can plug in an external optical drive.

There's no optical drive on that one

Surely all bigger than 1GB though?

Yes, but it has a micro-USB slot, which can be a hassle with a proper connection cable micro-USB to USB. Check if you can get one with a normal USB slot.

Opps, sorry, I read that as 1TB

I have a Dell tablet with a 64GB SSD, and that feels a bit small for an iTunes collection. However, it does have a full sized USB port, and I have attached an external DVD-RW drive to it.

. Oh ok maybe I'll have to do without the cd drive. Also noticed the laptop has 64gb but my iPod holds 120gb. Can I increase the memory or free space on it?

No, it's not as easy as that. You can get 128GB tablets, but that is getting ever more expensive.

Some tablets have a micro SD slot, but then the maximum is 32 or 64 GB.

There's times when you need a PC/Laptop. I'd say this is one! Tablets are brilliant but they can't do everything. I still need my PC for video editing and conversation.

Just get a Surface Pro 2, the new ones come in sizes from 64GB to 512GB.

You can get an external optical drive as needed.

Job done.

There are other full Windows 8 tablets which are cheaper alternatives to the Surface Pro. Not everyone needs i5 processing power.

I haven't seen a 1GB hard drive since the Windows 95 era!

The Samsung Smart Hub might be the kind of device you seek.
It's an external DVD rewriter. But it connects wirelessly and is a USB host. Apps for Android and IOS to connect to it.

That's Windows RT, so you cannot put iTunes on it. And while it will recognise DVD drive it won't be able to do anything with audio CDs, neither play nor rip them. You would have to choose one with i7 processor, that's Windows 8.
