What did Mary Blige want from her? She showed emotion and was note perfect.

WTF?

Nobody can better Leona's version. Melanie's performance was boring and dated small voice no future in the music.industry.

I don't know, but it never wowed me either.

I just had Leona's version in the back of my mind, and it just highlighted how much 'smaller' Melanie's voice is compared to Leona's, and it sort of put a dampener on Melanie for me. I think another song choice would have been better for her, its a shame though.

I didn't think she sang it well at all. The song was too big for her, I felt uncomfortable for her while I watched.
It was the wrong song, but then I don't think her voice is fantastic tone-wise even if she does sing in tune. Very little emotion too.

I'm sorry but I actually thought it was bland, dull and boring - it didn't surprise why she didn't go through..just my opinion

It was boring like Mary J Blidge said she sang all the notes right but I didn't feel it there wasn't any passion behind it .

That was more or less my view of it too. I don't like Leona's cover either, so I suppose I wasn't ever going to like Melanie's.

Yes they can, Snow patrol who's song it is and they sing it minus the warbling and woohooing. Ruining a good song.
I hate her version, nothing as good as the original. I hate warblers. Please no.,as thats the majority of female singers this year, it will woohoo, warble ohohoh city.

Mels version was fine and she has a big voice, but nerves affected her as they did them all, lots of pressure etc. Hannah hit some bum notes, as did tamera, noone was perfect at JH's.

Nicole more or less said she has the best voice. but blah blah, your face don't fit blah. The girl is out now and home, so why keep slating and trying to humiliate her further, leave her alone ffs. She must feel gutted and mortified, why keep on attacking someone when they are down.

Next week one of your faves will be out and you will know how Mel fans like the Op feels.Sooner or later, they will all be booted and only one will win.

They were all boring and Hanna sang bum notes and has a dodgy voicebox and bawled her way through the whole thing, it was a shambles. The sob stories have taken over this year.
The live shows will show up a lot of these girls.
Abby should not have come through the auditions , never mind judges houses.not suited to Xfactor, Tamera is too young and raw and Hanna sounds like a chain smoker.I love soul singers but will her voice hold up.

I agree about Abi but I don't think Melanie was that good I'm afraid - just my opinion

Just heard her performance on radio, it was great, anyone says different are deluded, the girl has talent.

I liked it. All the Leona comparsions are redundant. It's not her song. I suppose we can all call a notable cover version the original when we want to make a point though.

If you had to sing it EXACTLY like someone else, it'd be singstar. Are you supposed to sing it like the other artists or put your own spin on it? What exactly do the judges want.

No one called Leona's the original, but the song is also now closely associated with Leona whether some people like it or not, so comparisons are going to happen.

The original was by Snow Patrol but Leona did real justice to the song...as for Melanie, well it wasn't great and very forgettable IMO

I agreed with every word that MJB and Nicole said. I'm a big fan of American Idol and the Americans are just used to a higher standard of singing than we are - they sort of take for granted that the right notes will be hit and that the voice is strong so that then, the emotional content of the performance is everything.

Melanie certainly did not deliver in that department. It is possible that this was because the song was too big for her medium/small voice, but she should really have known her limitations. Maybe if the girl with glasses hadn't been there, she would have been the contrast to the two bigger voices, but she was unlucky and also said glasses girl understands her voice better.

Looks like I'm going to be a Hannah fan - my God that girl was good!
