On Saturday in my local Cash Converters they had a VCR display with tapes and machines for sale. All VCR's £10.

I picked up a Philips Matchline VR-708 with remote in 'new' condition to try. But looking online I can't find anything about this machine from about 2000. It is a TurboDrive deck, has a shuttle wheel, polished grey face plate, manual record level with front level meters, audio only record, smart picture with 'natural', 'soft' and 'sharp' settings along with 'detail' which is different to sharp and works well with some things like sport. Inside it is very nice with a completely seperate and shielded PSU section, the trusted TurboDrive mechanism and the main PCB at the bottom.

Was this an expensive machine? Anyone remember them?

There appear to have been a number of variations of the VR-708
You've probably seen this and there are user manuals available for download

Thanks - I downloaded it and it seems a well featured machine. The picture quality is really very good.
