Melanie McCabe reveals she was encouraged to audition and was told "This is her year"
IRISH X Factor star Melanie McCabe revealed she was encouraged to share her 'sob story' by show producers.
The 20-year-old singer from Santry was axed by mentor Nicole Scherzinger in Antigua on last night's episode. The Dubliner has famously auditioned four times over the years. Melanie sang for producers prior to her performance for the judges and decided not to go ahead with participation on the show. However, show bosses immediately got in touch with her telling her this would be "her year". "I had made the decision not to go ahead and I called them to say it. Then a few minutes later, my phone was buzzing. "Producers got in touch telling me saying, 'It'd be worth your while'. In the early stages of applying, she explained that bosses enquire about any tragedies you've experienced. "They ask you if there's anything bad that's happened to you in the last few years," she told Colm Hayes on RTE 2FM. "I filled out what I felt I was currently going through, which was losing my house. "People are very quick to judge when you're on a show like this." Melanie McCabe during the Judge's Houses stage of the ITV talent show, The X Factor. Tom Dymond/ITV/PA Wire Music mogul Louis Walsh added that he did his best to encourage Nicole to take Melanie through to the live shows. "If I was in charge of the girls, I would have taken Melanie through. "I think she [Nicole] picked the three that she believed in most, I was doing my best behind the scenes." And he's encouraged Melanie to pursue a singing career in life after X Factor. "I think she's always had it and I love her attitude," he added. "She should never do X Factor again, I don't even know how she watches it!" |

Oooh look another article that seems to pop up when someone gets eliminated from the competition, I am awaiting the ones where they were unfairly treated and had to wait ages at auditions. Same old tripe after auditions. Sour grapes.

XFactor on the right. She didn't have sour grapes at all, she was really upbeat and didn't have a bad word to say about the show, she just revealed quite a bit about the process when she was asked. She didn't say she was tipped for the live shows or expected it, she said that them asking her not to drop out and the way they were talking to her got her hopes up, which is understandable. I actually think she comes across very, very well tbh. Also she didn't say that the producers told her "it is your year", (the judges said that), she said the producers told her "it'll be worth your while" which isn't quite the same thing. She also explained that the reason she didn't have a family reveal was because she asked them not to. She didn't say anything we didn't already assume to be true, but she confirmed a lot. What surprised me was how revealing she was and that Louis was part of the interview, so I would imagine her comments were sanctioned (it would be odd if a contestant revealed more than they were allowed to during an interview that included one of the judges). I thought it was quite an interesting interview and I don't think she is in the least bit desperate either, she clearly knows the deal and what the shows about. |

Personally I think it was a pretty shitty thing to do to poor Melanie. I know I'd be furious if I was exploited in such a manner for the sake of "ratings", Melanie's stoicism is actually quite admirable.

Don't you have to be a UK resident to enter X factor UK? Does that mean if a German or Swedish resident wanted they could enter and potentially win if they sang in English? Isn't there an Irish X Factor show?

Melanie has always come across as a very sweet girl, I highly doubt this story is fabricated in any way. She's has every right to expose what really happened, since X Factor have screwed her over.

I believe anyone can enter XF these days, and that would include the Swedes and Germans. |

I think desperation is the problem some of these acts have. Like the Scottish girl who got a no again and then Melanie and also Joseph. People who are just desperate for either 1) Money or 2) fame or both together.

No it's kinda shared with TV3 in Ireland and is open to residents of the UK and the ROI. My OH has family in Ireland and we were over there a couple of years ago while XF was on and it's branded as a TV3 show much like it's branded to ITV here.

I believe the TV ratings are actually higher in Ireland than they are in the UK (proportionally speaking), in other words it's even more popular here than in it's home country.....possibly because the population of the Republic is younger than the UK, and there are a higher percentage of teenagers and twentysomethings.
Yeah that could be true. I'm 16 and most people my age watch X factor. It's a pity there's no Irish person on again for the second year in a row |

Great interview by Melanie. She seemed upbeat and didn't come across as bitter, just said it how it is.
I can't believe they filmed them first class, then moved them! That is hilarious. |

But Melanie says she took the decision to quit the show this year even before the first TV audition and it was the producers who begged her to reconsider. Who are the real desperate ones here?
Why doesn't she just audition for Big Brother or something, at least that will be a chance for her to appear on TV every day and a chance to perhaps launch a career of some sort in the future? Give it up with X Factor and try a different route. |
