Flash Vote - Deadlock
17@17
07-10-2013
Apologies if this has been asked elsewhere but was wondering if someone could explain to me how deadlock will work in the new voting format?

So, to my understanding, in the sing off will be the bottom place on Saturday and the bottom place on Sunday. So if the judges are 2x2 and we go to deadlock, how is it being decided whos going home? Is it just the Saturday person? That wouldn't seem very fair to me since the judges would know that beforehand.

So how?

I think they announced that the "fifth judge" breaks the deadlock.

^^^^

There's a 10 minute window to vote after everyone sings on Saturday. The person with the lowest votes will be revealed and they will definitely face the sing off on Sunday. Lines then re-open and the person who has the least votes of the rest on Sunday will join the first act to face the judges' vote.

That is interesting but just another way for Syco/ITV to make some extra cash from the public.

The simplest way for it to work, in my opinion, would be for votes by the app to take place after the last two contestants are revelead, but before the singoff. The judges could then vote upon the singoff, and if they go to 'deadlock' the app votes sway it. This allows people to save someone they would prefer even if they didn't vote for either originally.

For example, someone who voted for Union J may be happy that they got though, but would also prefer to save Ella over James Arthur last year. In a way it allows people to save an act they didn't know were vulnerable.

thank you

i like the idea of app voting, but i just think it's stupid that you can only vote for an act for 10mins after they've performed.

the fairest way will always be to wait until ALL acts have sung before opening votes. anything else is greedy and sways for popularity (particularly with the teens) over talent.

The more I hear about this the more I think it's a dreadful idea, I actually kinda liked the new system they introduced last year of opening the lines before the performances as for the most part it got rid of the curse and benefit of both the death and pimp slot

I'm intrigued as to how they're going to resolve a deadlock with this in place, but if it is true that the act who lost the Flash Vote goes home then not only is that pretty unfair as it was only a ten minute vote, but it also removes any tension whatsoever from a deadlock situation and in fact they might even ditch the name 'deadlock' because it'll simply be Dermot saying 'if you opt to take it to a tie, X will be leaving as they lost yesterday's Flash Vote'. That's incredibly anti-climatic. No drama in the sing-off anymore if this is the case

The flash vote is ridiculous because the voting patterns will not have settled after a mere 10mins so the act at the bottom of the votes will be very unpredictable and likely inaccurate in reflecting public opinion. Also this means the running order will have a greater effect on who ends up in the bottom 2.

also anyone who can't watch it live can't take part in the flash vote?

That's probably one of the reasons they've introduced it - in order to bump them up a bit to stop the Strictly thrashing
