Same here - I like a lot of variety.....I think a few weeks ago they played some old skool UK streetsoul back in the early 90s from artists like Dean Edwards, Phillip Leo, Tongue N Cheek, Cooldown Zone (formerly 52nd Street), Soul Family Sensation, Kiss The Sky, Maxeen, Sha Sha, Glen Goldsmith, Deluxe - you don't hear people like them anymore
Coming back on topic, I'll be watching this Saturday to see what the contestants bring to the table

Never watch it anyway (not on purpose). Mum has the repeat on Sunday when we visit so unless we can twist her arm and make her switch over to something decent its on in the background.

Its a load of old cobblers with outdated acts and even more out-dated judges - which is probably why my 86 year old mother likes it (she's convinced Gary Barlow is Hughie Green - we haven't the heart to tell her).

I know. How can Louis Walsh and Sharon Osborne even pretend to be current. Gary Barlow is a bit of a has been too, otherwise he wouild never have chosen Kingsland Rd over Brick City (although to be fair their arrangement of Been Around the World was not very good - the singing was nice but the arrangement stank).

I think we may have confused them, bless 'em - I think we went a bit deeper than usual but you know what...we have to teach these little darlings
Anyway looking forward to the 1st live show to see what they can off but I heard Miss Flackster is joining Dermot on hosting the live show - that is a very bad idea IMO

It's ok. I think most people can keep up with the idea that you were discussing a radio station. They might not be very interested but I don't think they'll be confused.

Thanks for caring though.

It's not going to do much to improve the show really, but oh well, i will still be there.

My dad's nearly 80 and I think he's aware that Gary Barlow isn't Hughie Green....

Age is no barrier, for some, in regard to what's "current," some people of older generations keep up with what's "current," and I'm pretty sure Gary Barlow does..

Great songs are timeless anyway, which is why I don't buy this "dated," mantra whenever someone does a version of an older song and many a current star will admit that they're heavily influenced by the earlier, great artists..

Someone like Elton John, keeps up with what's going on and is pretty conversant with what's happening in the business.

I'm less concerned by Osbourne and Walsh's age, than I am by their total lack of any musical credentials..

I think they should force the judges to sing with their charges....

I'd love to see Osbourne banging out some hashed up "duet," with the Prison Officer..

Mind you, I don't ever remember Cheryl Cole doing that either, more than likely because she'd be exposed for the mediocrity that she is next to someone who would wipe the floor with her vocally.

Rich.

Me too, one of the (very) few advantages this show has over Strictly Come Dancing, which I also watch in the same way is that the voting goes on till the show the following day.

The BBC pretend that their results show is filmed on the Sunday, but you can't actually vote later than 15 minutes after the show because it is, in fact, filmed on the same day and then broadcast the following day..

I also think that's why SCD is on so early in the evening and I prefer to watch it, if I'm in, over dinner @ 8...for which "I'm Too Hungry."

Rich.
