Dr Who episodes on Watch TV

Appreciate information on why Watch TV are showing a feast of vintage Dr Who episodes as part of the 50th Anniversary, yet it would seem logical to have them on BBC 3? I assume that Watch TV "bought" the episodes from the BBC? I don't have Sky, so feel robbed. Thanks in advance for any insight from Forum members.

Watch is 50% owned by BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC so presumably they wouldn't have to buy the "rights" to any BBC programmes

BBC Worldwide still have to buy the rights, they just have the first option to buy them (at commercial rates, not at a discount)

These classic episodes were bought in as a package deal - they're being shown alongside a BBC America documentary series called The Doctors Revisited.

I was so excited to watch these, but alas, I'm working when they're being aired, and I've got no way to record them. Guess I'll have to watch it online..but it's not the same.
