Why is the originals so high on that list for renewal. It rates lower than a lot of those shows that are considered less likely for renewal.

“The Originals” is still a lock for renewal thanks to the third-season rule.

It’s a near-ironclad rule of broadcast TV that if a show will end its third season with 66 episodes (give or take one or two) under its belt, and it’s produced by the sister studio of the network where it airs, then it will be renewed for a fourth season. Media conglomerates make more money selling 88 episodes of a show into syndication than they do with 66 episodes, thus the incentive to keep rolling into a fourth year.

“The Originals” ticks both boxes for The CW, which is why it’s a sure bet for a Season 4 renewal come spring. It’s going into Season 3 with 44 episodes to its credit, and it’s produced by Warner Bros., which owns half of The CW (CBS owns the other half).

Oh okay thanks. I really hope it is, I'm just going to be worrying until it's officially announced. I'm not ready for the show to end just yet.

When do CW usually announce renewals/cancellations?

CW normally do early renewals around this time of year. But if not, it will be the usual May time.

I hope syndication somehow saves Reign but the fact that CW never even mentioned it at the Winter TCA and barely acknowledge the show in anyway may mean it won't. Production is done on the season. Fingers crossed the writers never left it on a cliffhanger for safe keeping.

Thanks for posting these again, I find them fascinating.
It’s really interesting to see what are actually the most watched programmes when you include DVR/on demand viewings, despite the fact that the advertisers won’t be interested in them.

Some programmes really get a ‘bump’ when you look at DVR/on demand viewings – The Blacklist goes from a 1.4 to a 2.6 (86% increase), Shades of Blue goes from a 1.2 to a 2.0 (80% increase), and How To Get Away With Murder goes from a 1.8 to a 3.2 (78% increase).

I bet the networks are working hard on how to sell these numbers to advertisers... which explains the increased popularity for product placements I guess.

Monday finals, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend adjusted down a tenth and is surely now a goner?

http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...s-feb-22-2016/

Perhaps Supergirl (down three-tenths) could replace it on The CW next year?

CEG should go. Regardless of whether the lead actress won a golden globe. Claire Danes and Geena Davis both won golden globes for My So Called Life and Commander in Chief, but it never got their shows renewed.

I like Rachel Bloom but the storyline in the show is just abysmal. Josh ain't even that hot anyway! It could have worked with some good writing but i can't see it getting another season either.

I agree the show would be good if it was just Rachel Bloom, but the character of Josh just doesn't work.

It's a real shame as it is one of my fave Monday shows.

P.s. I think both CEG and Agent Carter have gone in the wrong direction, which is why they've lost viewers.

Sadly I can't get into 'The Muppets'.

Not sure if it is because I am not the target audience age wise, or if it is because it is just too PC for it's own good. Most episodes just go by in a rush of nothingness.

Creative problems behind the scenes ruined The Muppets. Changing the EP and the premise of the show for the last six episodes made zero difference. Once you lose an audience, it's rare you can get them back. Especially for a show in it's first season. Before the series aired, I had it down as a flop anyway.

The Muppets and Agent Carter are surely gonners? Let's remind ourselves that Muppets premiered to a 2.9!!

Solid for the Chicago shows. Which they could be two tenths higher

Good to see Arrow back at 1.0. Solid for all ABC comedy lineup, the 3 comedies bar MF are all at 1.9. Wish Blackish could have hit a 2 with it's controversial, heavy episode.

Elementary rises. Murder hits series low again. Scandal hits series low for the first ever. Shades of blue drops. Grey's hits a season low.

Funny how since Shades of blue has been renewed, it has descended down into the ratings. Maybe NBC were too quick in renewing it, or are NBC happy that it does better in DVR?.

Gutted at the series low again for Murder I don't understand why America insist on having the breaks. I swear the majority of the time it damages the show ratings wise when it returns? When a show like Murder only has 15 episodes, does it really need the 3 month break?

I don't think the break has anything to do with it. I believe it is the quality. Murder and Scandal have both divided opinion on their current seasons by critics and fans. Yet, Grey's has earned it's best reviews and acclaim in years.

Gotham suffered a massive drop after its first mid-season hiatus and never really recovered.
