Actually, Glee's ratings aren't so bad, everything considered. If it had come back in it's old timeslot (Thurs 9pm) and scored those numbers, I'd definitely be going 'ouch' too. But, it's a new day and different timeslot, and up against competition that directly impacts on the Glee demographic - The Voice especially, but also Pretty Little Liars which, although much smaller ratings, grabs that female teen audience that Glee relies so much on. But Glee does really well in the L+3 and L+7 numbers - it's a great timeshift show, and it's social media numbers are sky high every week.

Also, ABC put a special Bachelor double ep on last night - next week, they'll be back to Marvel's Agents of Shield. I expect Glee to continue to perform decently well (they also have Demi Lovato guesting next week - she always seems to be able to perk up Glee's ratings!). In any case, Glee isn't living and dying by ratings - it already has a secured full season renewal, for it's final season.

Fox's problems run far deeper than faintly insipid Glee ratings. Rake, for example, took Glee's old slot and is performing just miserably. They've already lost The X Factor, Idol isn't doing well enough to support the other programming on it's nights. TBH, the fact that Glee appeared to give New Girl and Brooklyn 99 a 0.1 ratings boost each, is probably something pretty positive for it!!

I'm aware of Glee being renewed and it's lucky it has. 1.2 demo is absolutley awful, regardless of a new timeslot and it's social media. Demi Lovato's appearances have never made a difference in ratings anyway. The only huge ratings increase it got this season was the Finn tribute episode. Although it's too early to tell based on one recent new episode, but it's ratings are much lower than Almost Human, Rake and The Following at the moment. Glee is expensive. It's soundtracks don't sell well anymore. The songs from the soundtracks don't place high in the charts. It's a franchise that has been flat on it's ass for a few years now. Hopefully it will pay off in syndication.

Although i admire Fox in some ways. This was the network that gave us five seasons of fringe, which was very well known as not only being a ratings disaster but also actually losing Fox a lot of money as the demos and ratings didn't match the expenses in the last 3 seasons.

I won't defend Glee for a 1.2 rating - that is bad, in itself, and they need to bring that back up to the 1.4/1.5s they were getting earlier this season to stay respectable. However, comparing it with Rake, Almost Human - Glee is in it's 5th season, whereas these are first season shows, that should be scoring a great deal higher than a teen-centric show heading towards the exit in around 30 episodes time!

Glee's such a strange animal in TV terms - when it was big, it generated more buzz than anything else around. Now it's no longer the buzz show, but still operates on a totally separated plane to everything else. After all, it's not one of the half-hour comedies, nor is it an hour-long drama. It's lack of true categorisation - and it's continued relevance in sociopolitical issues - keeps it's head above water, when just numbers like those ratings would indicate a much worse fate for it.

Amazing how so many shows have collapsed in the ratings in the States. it doesn't seem that long ago NCIS and Glee was fighting it out for 5.0s.

Fox is just a disaster zone compared to even two years ago,all the new shows doing little, and Idol gone from a powerhouse to average.

Yet you do have to wonder what the new "good" ratings are in this down-scaling. Interesting times for Network TV.

NCIS needs Ziva back, the blonde bimbo is not popular with viewers and this season story wise has been very poor and imop it has affected the demos, it looks tired and maybe needs to go

The numbers Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory get - seemingly unachievable for the networks these days, yet they just hit those huge numbers week after week, new episode or repeat! Syndication, for those shows, has done absolute wonders!! But everyone else is suffering, and there's basically a new level that even the 'good number' show sit at, and it's so far south from even just a few seasons ago. TV viewing has changed, but the ratings system remains utterly rigid. I remember Kevin Reilly, the head of Fox, once saying that the system needs to evolve, because advertisers cling to what they know. Unless the way ratings are calculated changes, advertisers will pay less and less for shows that aren't necessarily 'failing', but just existing in the new order of how viewers consume their TV shows. No one agrees yet though, on what the solution to this is. In the meantime, Netflix sails by unaffected by such worries, and the cable networks, with shows like the Walking Dead, pick up vast numbers of audiences who've migrated from the major networks.

NCIS has such an old skewing viewing audience in comparison with other shows. it gets decent overall viewing numbers but 18-49 ratings are just in freefall. All the procedural crime shows seem to be going the same way though. The Cote De Pablo problems have exacerbated that though.

ABC is another network that has fallen from grace. This was the network that at one point had Lost, Desperate Housewives and Grey's and all three used to earn about 15-20 million in their hey day. ABC were known for their top rated dramas. Now, their shows can barely make 10 million. Their only show doing this is Modern Family, which is a comedy. The only drama they have that is pulling in great demos and ratings is Scandal which averages between 8-9 million. It's no wonder why the president of ABC's job is being looked over.

Rumor has it that FOX are having meetings about Almost human and it looks good, as one of the blokes who works for FOX is a big fan of the show and this was also the man who was repsonsible for Fringe lasting as long as it did.

Yes I can definitly see it getting renewed... but I see the only way it does if it goes to Friday nights.

The Following may have crashed dramatically from last year, and its ratings are low, but the fact is, it is still preforming well above FOX's scripted drama average.

The have very little success at the moment... and with Sleepy Hollow coming back, it will most likely have 15 episodes max, The Following will return for a 3rd season when Sleepy Hollow concludes its 2nd season.

As it's the show I follow the closest, I know that Glee had it's 100th episode celebrations, and media day this past week. The head of Fox entertainment, Kevin Reilly, used the term 'final full season renewal' when talking about season 6. I suspect it will take a total, catastrophic collapse of ratings for them to reduce the episode number. It's the final season, they don't need to reduce the order for any reason, other than appalling ratings - which haven't happened yet. Fox execs and Ryan Murphy have already sat down and talked specific details about the final season - and they all make very excited, please noises about it in press conferences! I think they know what they want to do, how many episodes they want to do it in and, so far, no one's hinted at that being any less than the 22 episodes they've been given for previous years.

Fox have some very big scheduling holes to fill - and that highly desired 18-34 demographic to chase - and Glee still hits a lot of their tick boxes for that (social media, lots of young female consumers buying their associated products, the Amazon and iTunes deals for the episodes and songs - very lucrative stuff BTW, even when iTunes numbers are down from their peak!). With the loss of X Factor, Fox are going to want those shows that keep that demo group tuning in to their network. Glee is massively useful from that perspective.

I mean, Rake is gone, I agree - it's done terribly. Such a shame, it had tonnes of potential, and met the brief of a procedural, non-episodic show that Fox is really lacking right now. They need to find something to replace that type of show. I do also think they're due a major shake up of the schedule. Their attachment to their comedy Tuesdays hasn't worked out well at all, and the fall schedule is light close on 3 hours of programming on Wednesdays and Thursdays with the loss of XF. They need to rethink the way they put their shows in the available timeslots - and look carefully at what they're putting these shows up against.

Incredible starts to ressurection and Believe.

So does around 70% of all broadcast network dramas nowadays. Unless you are a comedy called The Big Bang Theory or a procedural named NCIS, making over 10 million viewers on a regular basis (and also on a Live + Same Day numbers) is decent and a bit of hard work. With hefty competitions from cable and streaming, it's no wonder. Scandal, Grey's and Modern Family are the only shows that still show ABC some dignity. DWTS can't even juice up the network's average now. Although, to be fair, DWTS while formerly having good ratings, it wasn't "the show" that people would get excited by when the season comes around, like FOX with Idol. DWTS was constantly overshadowed by ABC's scripted shows which would not only have a larger fanbase, but also higher ratings at the time. DWTS were lucky to even get number 1 show for some weeks in 2010 (total viewers-wise), when Idol really started to wane and the DWTS contestants were mainly tabloid fodders.

Speaking of falling from grace, Glee is down to a series low-tying 0.9 with 2.34m total viewers. !!! Talk about a show which used to be a phenomenon now getting embarrassing ratings. The Originals could even beat them if they adjust up in finals and Glee doesn't (let alone going down). How will FOX handle this one? The advertisers are not going to be happy about this. Speaking of which, TBBT got a three-season renewal which would bring them to season 10. I suppose the danger of multi-season renewals is that the show will either get better or backfire in their faces. One commenter on TVbyTN mentioned The Drew Carey Show as an example. They got a multi-season renewal before season seven began. Needless to say, they dropped in numbers since then and by season 8, it was forced into hiatus and the remaining episodes were exiled to summer. With ABC not being able to back out of the contract, season 9 was forcefully filmed and that season was shown in summer season only. Glee is on their way to finishing season five, but what will the network do for season six (the final season)?

Agents of shield is now getting under 6 million now. A second season is likely but next season will be make or break and I've said this before xmas.

I would have thought they'd be gone by May to be honest. Now, I think a second season is likely to happen, but I can only see them making to 13 and stopping there, if the pattern gets worse.

I did begin to read an article which said because Disney own Marvel etc they will hold on to Shield regardless of the ratings. They have put an awful lot of resources into this show.

Anyway I have just been on the tvbythenumbers and they are having a spat about Reign as it has gone down to a 0.5. TVD is not on this week. Someone has mentioned 'The Gunsmoke Rule'. They are having a spat as well as to what this means. Anyone here have an idea?

Its also like saying, Heroes, on NBC which just got revived, when it was cancelled after 4 seasons due to low ratings, the ratings it was getting (around 2.2 avg in the demo) NBC would kill for this year, instead of the Likes of Revolution (avg around 1.4 in the demo)... it was 5 years ago, so tv landscape has changed since then..
