Grimm returns tonight, it's been the longest wait ever! And the premiere of Constantine. Should be a good night for NBC.

I'm loving How to Get Away with Murder. Thrilled with its ratings.

I have a feeling Bad Judge might get additional episode orders and A to Z will be cancelled before this year finishes. If anything, Bad Judge might get a Parks lead-in, even though both shows rate very lowly. It can be like a cult fanbase hour.
The Biggest Loser looks to be more cancelled at this point. It may be cheaper to make, but they are on their 35654th season and their longevity power is starting to fade now. |

First cancellation of the season is Manhattan Love Story. Selfie will air back to back episodes which means it's not getting a back order either

Deadline described MLS recent ratings as "point of no return". I mean, 0.7 is reaching CW territories here. Selfie is ABC's version of Bad Judge, ratings and production wise. The only difference is that Bad Judge will last a bit longer.
ABC might have the first casualty show, but at least they are having a great season with their Wednesday (with Nashville as the Bob's Burgers-like filler), Thursday and Friday lineup. Monday is their older-skewing night. They really need to work on their Tuesday and Sunday. |

FOX are stubborn buggers. In the past, they have a number of times been the first network to cancel a show but decided to hold back and allow ABC to make the first move. Tutut. What are they like?
Wonder how Constantine and Grimm did last night? |

It must kind of suck to be a US show. They don't get time to shine really. In the UK, things continue until it gets bad ratings, but in the US, if its underperforming by a tiny bit, they pull it, and replace it with something else... which gets cancelled anyway and on and on and on. It's more beneficial to let a season air out surely, because they keep replacing cancelled shows with worse performers.
Lets look at history itself, shows such as The Big Bang Theory and even Friends first season and the first 2 seasons of Seinfield, they only did "OK" for their channels at the time. They were given a shot and all became huge. Now, imagine how different the world of TV would be if Friends and Seinfield was cancelled after 1 season. CW actually has the best approach to their shows, as far as I'm aware, they mostly air out their shows to finish them and then pull them. MLS is the first cancelled right? It will be replaced by something that probably does as badly, it's just an ongoing cycle! What I found interesting is a post on TVBTN (zap 2 it in other words) that around 80% of freshman shows end up cancelled, whereas in the UK, they give it time. Here are the freshman shows last year which are back this year... CBS - The Millers, Mom. ABC - SHIELD, Resurrection, The Goldbergs NBC - The Blacklist, Chicago PD, About A Boy FOX - Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Sleepy Hollow. CW- Reign, The Originals, The 100. Lets not forget The Millers is owned by CBS, it wasn't doing too well, so that maybe would have been cancelled anyway. So Mom would be seen as quite special to them... hence giving Mom the post BBT slot for a while? And The Goldbergs was lucky to get renewed, luckily now for them, it has done much better in its new slot. And here are the ones cancelled... CBS - Intelligence, Hostages, We Are Men, Friends With Better Lives, The Crazy Ones, Bad Teacher. ABC - Lucky 7, Trophy Wife, Super Fun Night, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, Betrayal, Back In The Game, Killer Women, Mind Games, The Assets, Mixology, Black Box (this one's tricky, it premiered in-season but aired through the summer). NBC - Ironside, Welcome To The Family, Sean Saves The World, The Michael J. Fox Show, Dracula, Believe, Crisis, Growing Up Fisher. FOX- Rake, Dads (I can't find the rest of the cancelled shows) CW - The Tomorrow People, Star-Crossed. Pretty harsh odds. Overall CW has the "best" year in terms of keeping shows. It lost 2 new ones, it renewed three new ones and renewed older shows... Beauty and The Beast, Hart Of Dixie, Arrow, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries. And this year so far, it looks like Arrow, TVD, The Originals, Supernatural (maybe a final season), The Flash, Jane The Virgin? may get other seasons... so I'd say they are doing pretty well. |

Any show that is doing <1.0 is never going to become a hit. Better to cut their losses and air something there that will do even just a little bit better. It also allows them to burn off Selfie faster.

That proves it depends on the slot, move any of the NBC Thursday comedy line up to a Monday-Weds or even a Sunday, it'd probably for up a few tenths. eg. Bad Judge would be in the mid 1s. The expectation is low on certain days, eg. NBC Fridays, Grimm has been getting 1.4-1.6 average in the last year, and that is seen as fantastic on a Friday, on another day, it would be seen as "average". |

I agree, it does depend on the slot
I was shocked the goldbergs got another season but ABC clearly had more faith in it and made a genius move adding it wednesday nights. It has paid off and is one of their top shows. Manhattan love story had it's chance and was given a fair go. It flopped. It's cancellation was deserving sadly. IMO, the plot was crap anyway. Same with Selfie, but selfie is doing a tiny bit better which is why ABC are longing it out a bit longer. While Friends and Seinfield were hardly earning record breaking ratings in their early years, there demo's were still impressive and hardly the 1.0 and under that Manhattan was earning, so very difficult to compare. Plus both were NBC and NBC nuture their shows better than any network i have come across. ABC have two other comedy shows for midseason. Fresh off the boat is about an asian american family, while Galavant is a fairy tale fantasy musical comedy. Both seem promising and sounds much better than MLS and Selfie. FOX need to change RBS slot The CW have a small amount of shows and never have a lot of midseason shows on the side anyway, which is why they rarely cancel shows early in the season and always allow them to air the full 22 episodes. But then The CW is not your typical main network anyway as the viewers and demos are much lower and the content of their shows are aimed at a young audience. |

Cristela is officially in the danger zone. Last man standing didn't do too well at all. With enough for syndication after this season, i had Last man standing down as a potential cancellation anyway. Hawaii did terrible. Blue Bloods managed a cool 1.3 Constantine premiered in an average way, but if i am honest, i expected it to be higher, especially for for the pilot. I was expecting at least 6 million viewers with a 1.6/1.7 demo. I don't know if the world game series could be a reason for these declines though. |

Networks do renew shows which are low rated but have potential or are liked by the networks. It's the show that clearly aren't getting an audience that usually get axed early.
The CBS comedy lineup on Mondays in previous years had lower ratings than DWTS but were demo winners. HIMYM was very close to being axed but the writers adding Britney Spears to do a few episodes lifted its viewerships. Big Bang Theory was a solid performer in its first two seasons but moving it after Two and a Half Men is when it really took off then they moved to Thursdays where it continue to be a solid hit. NCIS is another one which only had average ratings then started to take in its fifth season. Both shows benefited from syndication on USA Network and TBS. Makes me wonder if shows like The Blacklist might see boosts since The Blacklist has been sold to Netflix but I imagine Sony and Universal will look for a cable home for it. |

Friday early ratings in full:
CBS: The Amazing Race- 5.55m (1.0) Hawaii Five 0- 8.78m (1.1) Blue Bloods- 11.20m (1.3) ABC: Last Man Standing- 6.26m (1.1) Cristella- 5.18m (1.0) Shark Tank- 6.90m (1.8) 20/20- 5.84m (1.5) NBC: Dateline- 6.21m (1.1) Grimm- 5.30m (1.5) Constantine- 4.30m (1.4) FOX: World Series- 9.91m (2.5) CW: Jane The Virgin (r)- 890,000 (0.3) Americas Next Top Model- 1.08m (0.3) OK start for Constantine for a start, good for Grimm, hoped it would hit a 1.6 but still good to be up from the 1.3 final from last season! Not very good for Cristela though! |

Blue Bloods is a solid performer, I can't see CBS axing it whereas Hawaii Five-0 and The Amazing Race are in the danger zone.

Yeah i have feeling Hawaii may see the axe. 1.1 is ridiculous, even if it was up against the world series.

Think CSI's chances of getting a final season renewal have increased. I think The Good Wife will be renewed for the last season as well

I reckon The good wife could end up like the Mentalist. 13 episode final season for midseason. |

I personally think it will be Hawaii's last season, but TGW will get its last season next year.
With older shows there is more room for error, eg. they have a loyal fanbase and even if the number watching is quite small, it's a pretty dedicated audience, and they are close to the syndication amount etc... So that's why freshman shows have it the worst and its a blessing if a show gets a 2nd season! But shows like New Girl (even though it wasn't doing well in the last half of S3) was probably renewed to reach the average of 88 episodes needed for syndication. So that's why I would say Grimm is a shoe-in for a 5th season even if it drops to around 1.1 for example, because not only would a 1.1 be seen as the NBC average for the slot, but Grimm at the end of this year will hit the magic number of 88. |

Anyone think this year hasn't been good for sophomore shows? Reign on CW, Sleepy Hollow on FOX, Shield on ABC, and The Millers on CBS seem to have potential to while not be hits but show improvement at least!

Shield has declined in viewers but it's demos are fine, same with Sleepy. Too early to know with the millers though. If i am honest, i found the second half of the miller's season 1 very weak and with the addition of Sean "i can only play stereotypical gay men" Hayes, i don't have a lot of hope for how season 2 will turn out. Always got the impression that CBS pride their love and support much more in Mom anyway, which it deserves. |

It's football tonight on NBC
Wonder if any of sunday's shows will see a decrease in some way? Madam Secretary could sure use a increase then any further decreases. |

It's doing alright. The ratings are high but the demos has fallen quite a lot. Last few episodes have managed about a 1.4/1.5 which for a sunday night, could be a hell of a lot better. I can see it getting it a full season but if those demos don't pick up, i can not see a second season happening at all. The fact that show is up against Once upon a time likely doesn't help. But the show is airing an hour late than usual tonight. I think the show is more suitible for a 9:PM slot than 8PM slot anyway so if this change works out, i wonder if they will remain it there.

- Gotham launches at 3.2, Sleepy Hollow starts at 2.0. - The last episode just gone- Gotham at 2.3. Sleepy Hollow at 1.8. |
