Forever is up in the households from last week at least, only by 0.1 but its something, hopefully the youngesters were watching last night.

Forever always beat Agents of Shield in the households which is quite interesting, but its mainly watched by the older folks sadly

Terrible night for comedy across the board and ABC's Tuesday night woes continue. Why on earth they picked up a back order for Forever might be one of the major mysteries of the season.

Chicago Fire perhaps the most impressive rating of the night though if only because it appears to have grown across the hour something that 10PM shows almost never do.

Chicago Fire was amazing last night. It delivers every week but last night's was 10/10. It was a great edge of your seat episode.

I have been saying it for a while but Forever's full season pick up is enough to bug your brain

That 1.6 for Marry me is rather good. I can't see it being cancelled if it keeps up with that sort of demo's.

Its all Voice inflation though which is the problem. I really don't know what they're going to do with Marry Me at all. They've seen how badly these Voice inflated comedies do without The Voice (Go On and now About A Boy) so is it really worth keeping? Who knows. I like it though so I'd like them to keep it.

Comedy does seem to do in the doldrums at the moment but the genre always bounces back when something clicks like Modern Family, Big Bang Theory etc Black-ish I think will be a stayer for ABC not sure about CBS but I wouldn't be surprised if they renew The Odd Couple if it starts okay although they've not renewed a midseason comedy in 8 years.

Hope Marry Me doesn't survive, because a want About a Boy too.

If they switched position reckon AAB would do better than an 1.6.

Some of those numbers for last night are much better than the last week. Marry Me climbed three tenths and AAB climbed four tenths despite The Voice being down which really surprised me.

Great as always for The Flash and Supernatural.

ABC have made some scheduling moves.

American Crime will now air on Thursday night at 10PM from March 5 not the previously announced Secrets & Lies. That'll air Sunday nights at 9PM instead starting with a two hour debut starting March 1.

How To Get Away With Murder will have a two hour finale February 26.

They haven't announced it but I'd imagine some kind of Murder recap show will play at 8PM instead of Grey's Anatomy. That allows them to use a two hour Grey's block as a lead-in for American Crime later in the run in place of a Scandal repeat.

Switching of American Crime and Secrets & Lies though does not give me happy thoughts about Secrets & Lies.

In fact having done the sums they aren't going to have enough episodes of Scandal to match American Crime even with a two hour block of Grey's.

Secrets and Lies is only a limited series but the fact it's been switched with American Crime doesn't inspire much confidence.

Last I heard the plan for both Secrets & Lies and American Crime was for them to be anthology series with a different story and cast coming in every season. Certainly that was the plan ABC was talking up when both were taken to series. I suppose there are really two ways to look at this switch. Either American Crime is coming in and its much better than ABC originally thought it would be so they want to give it the best possible slot they can or Secrets & Lies is coming in and its much worse than ABC thought it would be and they don't want it anywhere near their Thursday line-up as a result. I'm more inclined to believe option two just because expectations were never exactly low for American Crime. We'll see what happens though. Sunday 9PM isn't in and of itself a bad slot it just doesn't feel like the most positive of moves.

Of course it now looks increasingly unlikely that ABC is going to see sense and move Nashville from that Wednesday 10PM slot this season. Now that they seemingly have a 9:30 comedy that can hold a decent audience it really is time to try find a stronger 10PM drama for Wednesday.

I think if American Crime is successful, it'll share the 10pm with HTGAWM since the latter will only have 15 episodes a season maximum because of Viola Davis. American Crime has a strong cast with Felicity Huffman and Timothy Hutton, both have had been successful television series and known to viewers.

I think Nashville will move to Sundays if Revenge is cancelled but TBH Sunday 9 and 10pm need an overhaul.


FOX has slotted Empire on Wednesdays which means Red Band Society is dead, they still have a ton of midseason shows with no slot. Backstrom I think should be paired with Bones on Thursdays, Wayward Pines, Mondays once The Following is finished and Glee Fridays.

CBS has yet to announce where The Odd Couple and Battle Creek will go, my guess is The Odd Couple will replace The McCarthys in February or March and Battle Creek will be replace Stalker which I reckon will have its episode order cut to 17-18 episodes

I would certainly assume that ABC will want another limited run series to pair with How To Get Away With Murder although I have to admit that the mind boggles about what they're planning to do for a second season of Murder. It feels like the kind of thing that might just spectacularly flame out in season two. That's another issue though. The problem American Crime may have in the long run is that its two big television stars may not be back for a second season. If ABC is going to follow through on their plans for this to be True Detective for broadcast television they're going to have to have very careful management of it.

On the subject of Sunday nights I really don't know what they can do there. Part of me thinks that they should just (temporarily at least) give up on it and go with this next season:

There's very little rhyme or reason to that scheduling (although I don't hate the Once Upon A Time/Agents of SHIELD pairing) and it would almost certainly perform horribly but it would free them up to go back to the drawing board on Tuesday (where they'd be free of big hitters on cable and football) and free up that Wednesday 10PM slot for them as well which should really be a better performer for them.

When it comes to Tuesday night I think they're going to have to put established drama there. Part of me is very tempted to do this:

8PM: The Middle
8:30PM: New Comedy
9PM: How To Get Away With Murder
10PM: Castle

That however would leave a sizable hole on Thursday night although you'd hope Scandal would be remain strong enough to support another new series there. The bigger issue would probably be Monday 10PM without Castle.


That Empire scheduling confuses me.

Wednesday night Idol will inevitably at some point be two hours. There's just no way around that so I don't really understand how Empire is going to go there from January. I suspect that might be a 'sneak preview' of Empire and that it'll actually end up somewhere else entirely when its regularly scheduled.

I'm also not sure how they'd pair Bones and Backstrom up just because Thursday night Idol is going to make that impossible. Fox's midseason schedule is just a mess at this point.

Monday: Gotham / Sleepy Hollow / The Following
It'll be some combination of these three shows for the rest of the season. I'd guess Sleepy Hollow will slide to 8PM while Gotham is on hiatus and The Following will takeover the 9PM slot. Gotham then returns when Sleepy Hollow is done.
Tuesday: ??? / New Girl / The Mindy Project
The additional episode order for Mindy suggest the comedies are staying put. What leads into them? MasterChef Junior can't continue in that slot so presumably it'll be one of the new dramas. Although I suppose they could shift the comedies to 8PM and have Empire at 9PM
Wednesday: American Idol
I don't see how they schedule an hour long drama here. At best I think we get the Will Forte comedy here or maybe Weird Loners
Thursday: American Idol / Bones / Backstrom
Bones and Backstrom sharing the Thursday 9PM slot maybe?
Friday: ???
No idea what goes here.

Presumably Sunday stays more or less as is. With Bob's Burgers moving back to 7:30 to make way for Bordertown at some point. Wayward Pines I'm guessing ends up in the summer. Glee I suppose is possible on Friday but I still haven't discounted a summer run for it either. Its numbers were pretty awful last year.


I think The Odd Couple will land at Thursday 8:30 midseason and they'll just shift Mom to 9PM and Two and a Half men to 9:30. I'm assuming The McCathys doesn't get a back order although if it does God knows what scheduling CBS has in mind for their comedies come midseason.

When it comes to Battle Creek I'm actually coming round more and more to that landing in the summer. I think its going to take too many scheduling moves to get on the air before then or at least not running into summer anyway. Particularly as CSI: Cyber has to land somewhere as well.

CSI Cyber is replacing CSI on Sundays once it complete its 18 episode order but that could change especially as Stalker isn't doing great.

The Odd Couple seems more compatible with TAAHM than Big Bang Theory but I think CBS which produces the show will give it the best lead in which is Big Bang Theory but personally I think they should let Mom grow its audience before they move it.

American Idol is, reportedly, going down to 1 hour slots very quickly after the audition weeks - I think Fox don't want to sacrifice an entire night to the AI numbers. So a following drama would fit here - especially something that (I think) was scheduled to be a limited series. The double episode weeks of AI can fit around the run of Empire.

As for Fridays, it's Bones or Glee IMO, although Bones looks to be heading for renewal so I'd put them on a Tuesday. As for Glee I really, really don't think this show is going out for it's final season in a summer burn-off. However, the numbers were very poor last season - but, up against The Voice live shows, they were in a death slot really! I think a Friday slot would see out the final season, without too much embarrassment all round. Horrible numbers, yes, but Glee's additional revenue streams make it an entirely different prospect from almost any other show on TV, that iTunes deal is pretty lucrative, no matter what the ratings numbers. Fox needs this to air in season, not out, to make those revenues work for them. Glee's production seems to have cut back to bare bones, and I suspect is a viable show for a Friday advertising rate. Bones is old and expensive, but has better ratings. I'd say Tuesdays may work for it.

Seems like the schedule isn't too far off being confirmed for the majority of networks within the next week or so. be interesting to see how they all stack up. then , it'll be time to predict the first cancellations of the midseason debuts!

Another trend at the moment and I noticed this in quite a few of the shows picked up back in may, are these so called limited series where over 10 episodes, it's all to do with one particular crime. These limited run crime dramas are becoming a bit boring for my liking. and ever since American horror story, more and more shows are becoming anthology with a different cast every season. I was a snob and did roll my eyes up at these shows that were picked up. Wayward Pines looks very much the same.

When is The Odd Couple supposed to start anyway? I wonder where they place it, I hope it's not behind TBBT, as much as I want it to do well, I hope Mom can stay there.

No confirmed date but networks have been confirming midseason show starts dates over the last few dates.

and i know what you mean. The Odd couple shouldn't rely on TBBT to help lead it off. Eventually, Mom will need to rely without TBBT in the future as well.

There comes a time when shows need to stand on there own. The Millers proved it needed Big bang theory and that it couldn't stand on it's own.

I have a feeling The Odd Couple will be a little hit, not big, but not a flop. Low 2s with no TBBT lead in, which would be seen as a hit surely? I hope it does well.

But I am looking forward more for NBC comedies, I mean, they have done so badly in the past and are this year too... I wonder if the upcoming comedies will follow suit... most likely! I feel for NBC, their comedies just haven't done well in years!

I think Fresh off the boat may be a hit for ABC. It looks brilliant. But it all depends where it is placed. It could replace Cristela on friday, which is doing dreadful. But then that could kill Fresh off the boat as well.

Which is much easier said than done. The live performance shows will not fit into a 60 minute slot. That's the primary problem.


Far too much noise is made about Glee's 'additional revenue streams'. The same is true, albeit to a lesser extent, of Nashvile. At its peak Glee certainly had valuable additional revenues (mainly from the masses of merchandising and not the release of songs) but those days are very much gone. Song sales will account for a tiny percentage of revenue given that they also have to cover the cost of licensing the songs, recording the songs and revenue from those gets split between writers, record companies etc.

Its also worth remembering that Glee's numbers weren't exactly good before it moved back to Tuesday night.


Cristela is not doing dreadfully any stretch of the imagination. It might not be doing amazingly well either but dreadful is completely over the top.

It's demos are 1.0/1.1. Even for a friday and a brand new show, that is dreadful. Hardly over the top.

It certainly is over the top. Its performance absolutely is not dreadful.
