HBO have confirmed they are no longer releasing ratings for their shows. They feel that the ratings they release are not actually the true representation of HBO's true audience size.
I bet they wish they'd done this a long time ago! Of course, they have this luxury because they're subscriber not ad revenue supported. Since Netflix has spent the last few years convincing the media that the whole world is watching their shows, without having to provide an ounce of evidence, I guess other non-traditional networks are looking to play a similar game. Netflix may well have huge numbers (god knows it must be relatively simple to track their exact numbers of downloads) just no one knows. And now it'll be the same with HBO.

I can see looking at this thread that the ratings for the Daytime Soaps in the US
(Y&R 5 million through to Days 2.5 million) are holding up pretty well against a lot of Primetime equivalents

That is rather nice to see - because although they cost more to make than, say a game/ talk show, their budgets are nothing like Primetime shows.........

I'll bet they'll still release ratings when a show hits big like Game of Thrones. Wonder if Showtime and Starz will do the same?

Is tv big on Xmas day in the USA like it is in the UK? Do they have special Christmas day episodes? I don't seem to recall any.

Nope, Christmas is the deadest TV day of the year in America. Americans simply don't watch TV on that day, so nothing of any significance is scheduled. I was absolutely stunned when I learned that it is exactly the opposite in the UK. It made me wonder if in the UK cats bark and dogs meow.

You have it right! I think it is a time for being with the family and playing charades, not a time for watching the latest soap episode!

Next weekends NFL schedule-

Saturday, Jan. 3

4:35 PM (ET) Arizona at Carolina (ESPN)

8:15 PM (ET) Baltimore at Pittsburgh (NBC)

Sunday, Jan. 4

1:05 PM (ET) Cincinnati at Indianapolis (CBS)

4:40 PM (ET) Detroit at Dallas (FOX)

The last Baltimore/Pittsburgh primetime game was really good so that's potentially a big rating in spite of being on Saturday.

Galavant premieres tomorrow
This is one of those shows whose performance I have been looking forward to. It's a fantasy musical comedy i believe. It will either be one of the worst things ever to grace ABC or a modest hit.

I do think both will end up getting renewed for different reasons.

Flash because why wouldn't they .People are watching it and it has been well received .

And Jane turns out to be The CW's version of The Good Wife .Not great numbers but it gets keeps getting renewed because they are getting nominated for proper awards (by which I mean not the Teen Choice Awards or Peoples Choice ) with both the show and Gina Rodriguez getting nominated for Golden Globes .I mean come on its the CDub and it's not exactly famous for the acting on its shows.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it is The CW's Good wife. The good wife had brilliant numbers for it's first four seasons. But it's impressive a show from The CW managed to bag two golden globe nomination. Jane the virgin has more of a chance of a renewal than Reign.

I was just trying to point out that CBS will keep renewing whatever the Demo is (which is what matters most in terms of US ratings rather than the headline number) and that continues to fall and the median age of viewers continues to rise .Shows with better demos have been canned on CBS in the time that Good Wife has been on and that is simply because it gets nominated for the big awards .

And that's really what I was comparing .JTV gets a save this time because of the GG nominations when by rights it should be getting eaten by the bear as it sits in the bottom 3 on demo on that channel .I think it's fine but personally I like the other Telanovela remake that is on at the minute more - Chasing Life on ABC FAM and that has been picked up for a second season .

But your right the Bear is coming for Mary Teen Of Scots .Ratings are too low ,too far out from syndication to get another go .Unlike Beauty and the Beast and Hart Of Dixie who are nearly there .Dixie will probably get another 13 to get it over the line - they would probably have had a full 22 and out this year on HOD if Rachel Bilson hadn't gotten pregnant and the run got shortened. BATB will probably keep on getting renewed and burned off during Spring/Summer until they hit 80 episodes and until CBS (who own half of CW with Warner owning the other half) find some more of their own content for the network - BATB is one of only 3 CBS distributed shows with Jane and Mary TOS .And if you get a Season 3 the rule of thumb says that you usually get a Season 4 even if a short season to finish up.

I am very well aware that demos matter more than ratings, and The good wife's demos were very good in it's earlier seasons. I still couldn't compare jane the virgin's performance to The good wife, where as The good wife was at the start a very good performer, where as Jane remains inconsistent. Plus The good wife's award nominations have carried on throughout the run. I doubt Jane the virgin will be getting the acclaim and continuous award nominations and wins in years to come. I think a second season is a in sight for Jane but if the ratings do not pick up, it won't have a long shelf life, as acclaim and award nominations over high ratings can only take you so far.

I will be surprised if Dixie returns as cast and crew have all said that the last episode was filmed as a proper finale and that the wrap party wasn't a wrap party, it was actually a goodbye party. I think Dixie has come to an eventual end, but with no actual confirmation.

Great start for Galavant

A drop for Madam Secretary. It was really pulling in some good numbers towards the end of the year. Maybe Galavant gave it a dent?

Absolutley dreadful for Revenge. ABC need to cancel this show as early as possible, to give it time to wrap it all up.

Bad for Resurrection

An incredible series high for Brooklyn 99. Nearly 3.0.

Happy about Galavant's numbers. I was pleasantly surprised by the show but didn't imagine it would get much support from a mainstream network audience. Quirky stuff usually has to go to a cable channel in America.

It looks like E4 have confidence in season 2 of Brooklyn Nine Nine being successful in the UK too – I’ve seen quite a few TV adverts, quite a few bus adverts, and it’s been given the converted post-Big Bang Theory (their highest rated programme by far) slot.

Agen Carter premieres tonight with a 2 hour premiere
Forever follows after. I wonder if Agent Carter could give Forever boost

I get the impression ABC have a soft spot for Forever, otherwise it would never have got the full season order and have also given a highly hyped new tv show to be it's lead in.

Strong returns for 2 Broke girls, Mike and Molly, Gotham and Scorpion. A decent return for Sleepy Hollow. State of Affairs bombs. I had that as undecided but i would assume that show is more than likely a goner.

It is a very amiable show. The sort you would expect to work with the audience. I love it. How is it doing in ratings terms over here on Sky 1? Its British elements ought to help it translate easily.

Agent Carter did ok - 1.9 demo and 6.9m viewers, up on Shield and the highest in that 2hr slot for ABC since November 2013.

Forever didn't benefit much though, 1.1.

I expected higher for Agent Carter. It has been one of the most hyped new shows since it was picked up. If it managed a 1.9 for it's premiere, it will more than likely drop to perhaps a 1.5/1.6 next week.

Marry me is bombing. 0.8. Ouch. Such a shame as it remained consistent last year. Unless it was dented by Agent Carter

Agent carter did little to drum any interest in Forever.
