They do, but it doesn't factor in the price advertisers pay.

You could have fooled me. The BBC does measure ratings. It behaves like a commercial broadcaster when it isn't.

With FOX taking a different approach to ratings, this may mean renewals for low rated shows like Scream Queens, The Grinder and Grandfathered.

LOL, you cynic. Yeah, could be that or they are that desperate to renewal shows because as it is they will have nothing to air (except a lot of white noise).

Well apart from Rosewood, none of FOX's new shows have done well at all.

I wonder how Lucifer, Second Chance, Cooper Barrett, Bordertown and The X Files will do. Surely The X Files won't be earning 0.9 and 1.1. Hopefully it should be hitting 2.0.

Sleepy Hollow has to be a goner. It's no where near syndication numbers and it's their lowest rated show next to MR. The fact that it has been dumped on Friday's next year is a sign of a Dead Show Walking. Bones will most likely limp to a 12th season, which will make it FOX's longest running scripted show and will have beaten Married With Children. It already has the honour of being their longest running drama.

It is interesting and yes while these networks need to start taking into account other official ways their shows are viewed, Fox is only really doing this because the majority of their shows are rating bad. No way they would do this if they were reaching high overnight ratings.

I hope other networks don't follow suit (which is unlikely IMO) but it is the 21st century and as mentioned on this thread the US rating system is outdated now and needs to be assessed in other ways as well.

I think all the ratings should be combined into one big ratings. So the live ratings and then the DVR are all put together.

Well done FOX for (possibly) leading the way in a ratings revolution. Using a ratings system that was designed over 10 years ago does indeed need to be reviewed to reflect how viewing habits have changed, with technology, in the last decade. I’m just surprised it’s an immediate change.
So when will we see FOX ratings now, 7 days later?
I’ll be amazed if this doesn’t make FOX shows look a lot more successful, so I’ll be surprised if other networks don’t do likewise very soon. Of course it’ll benefit some networks more than others, which brings me on to...

Essentially yes. FOX has a young audience, and it is this audience who now view their programmes on demand, via DVRs etc. The current, out dated, ratings system is more damaging to them than some other networks. For example, CBS has a much older audience, an audience that still generally watches their programmes ‘live’, so CBS will be less at war with the current ratings system than the likes of FOX or The CW.

Minus football and the AMA's, The Simpsons won the night with a ratings rise.

I suspect Nielsen will continue to publish the ratings as they've always done. Fox may choose to ignore them but their advertisers won't necessarily follow suit. How many people here sit through the adverts when they're watching a recording?

Dancing With The Stars is the standout performer there for me. The Voice leafs in.the youth demo but DWTS was written off for years for skewing old, now it's neck & neck with The Voice.

I know
TNT will likely cancel it after it's aired

It should never of got a second season anyway.

I don't think cable channels are too concerned with overnights as they depend on repeats for much of their viewership.

Not dissimilar to Strictly Come Dancing here in the UK, although I don’t know of the exact demos, for years it was supposedly skewing to the older audience and couldn’t beat the younger skewing The X Factor. But now it’s not even a competition, with Strictly Come Dancing comfortably beating The X Factor.

ABC must be happy with Dancing with the Stars performance this season as I believe it’s the first one without Len Goodman, who acted as head judge, so there was a risk that the change could damage the ratings – but clearly not. And as ABC air two seasons of the programme a year (unlike just one in the UK), it’s back for another season in March.

But for TNT's standards, it's poor. Especially when they have cancelled shows with even triple those figures. But keeping Legends was down to the new bloke who took over who wanted to take TNT into a new direction.

What did it fall from 9 million was it?

I'd forgotten it was on last night actually.

I meant demo wise, not ratings.

Oh yeah just went and checked. Didn't realise it got a 2.2 for it's debut. Though if it stays around 1.6 to 1.9 it'll be like it's sisters shows.

I think thats pretty good for Chicago Med personally, it was never gonna keep that premiere number (what show does) and considering it had a lot smaller Voice lead in this week, 2.1 as opposed to 2.6 last week so actually had better retention this week

I think all in all a 1.8 is a perfectlly acceptable number

And as if he knew I posted this yesterday, Len Goodman has announced he will be returning to the next season of Dancing with the Stars in March.
