I used to love playing this game on the Spectrum 128k when i was a kid. I've been trying to remember the name of it for years and never been successful.

It was a single screen game where you controlled a small white spaceman on a black background from a side on view. You would fly about shooting various aliens around the screen, and the game got progressively harder. I'm not sure if there were different levels or it was one continuous thing.

I know that's not much to go on. Can anyone help?

No that's not it! That's close though.

The one i am looking for had no gravity mechanic, was much quicker and more responsive to control. The guy looked similar but was smaller and there was a much greater variety of enemies. Also you just shot baddies, there was no assembling of rocket ships.

The sequel? Lunar Jetman?

That dispensed with the rocket building, you just had to defend your base from enemies

Don't think either of these were released on the Spectrum

My first thought was Jetpac too. It could literally be anything, are you sure it was single screen, was it flip screen perhaps?

The only games that comes directly to mind are Exolon (but you didn't really fly), Hyper Active, Agent X II and Sidewize/Crosswize.

Are there any other details you can think of?

Looked up all the suggestions and i don't think it was any of those i'm afraid.

It was definitely single screen, no flipping. I think it was one of the cheaper games on the speccy (full price ones where 3.99 weren't they?)

I think you could only fire left and right as well, not up and down.

Try the website World of Spectrum, every game ever released is on there. If you can't find on there then you're imagining it!
