I'll go for

All Saints - Under the Bridge
Atomic Kitten - Eternal Flame
Gareth Gates - Suspicous minds
Will Young - The Long and Winding Road

Can anyone top those dire efforts?

Will Young Light My Fire
Tiffany I Saw Him Standing There (aka how to totally murder a Lennon and McCantney song in four minutes).

Four minutes? The damage was done in the first 30 seconds. The rest was just overkill.

Badly sang, horrible computer bleeps, and verses completely missing! Rubbish

Didn't we have this topic just a couple of weeks ago ?

Well my answer hasn't changed, it's still Comfortably Numb by Scissor Sisters

Yes we did have it before, but it was a lot longer than a few weeks. I posted my Tiffany response in the earlier version. If/when the search facility is restored I'll search for all my posts and check when the last post in the earlier version was. Time flies faster than you think:several times I've searched for a thread that I posted in and when I saw how far back it was I think 'It wasn't THAT long ago, surely'?

What was wrong with Atomic Kitten's cover? Sure it was boring, lifeless and uninspired. But no more so than the original

No, not another "worst covers ever" thread - everywhere you go this topic comes up.

Surely Will AND Gareth sang Long and Winding Road! Will hated it too according to an interview he did but he was still under the Pop Idol contract.

Totally agree, the fact that they took a song about being in a comatose drug induced state and thought I know let's turn it into a disco track.

Britney Spears pretending to be a rock chick when she ruined Joan Jett's I Love Rock n'Roll (originally a song recorded by the girl band The Runaways which included Joan Jett and Lita Ford- real rock chicks !)

Stick to pop miss spears you are not dangerous enough for rock!

Also madonnas 'version' of American Pie was absolute CRAP!

Bizarre, I still think that's their best single to date.

Worst cover version ever? Yes, I'd agree that Madonna's version of "American Pie" is right up there.

I would like to echo the sentiments of many here:

Madonna - American Pie...

I would go as far to say she should be *shot* for that....

And to make it worse one of my friends who is a big Madonna fan said that they didn't realise it was a cover until I told them.. GOD!!

Erasure's cover of 'solsbury hill' was a bit of a stinker.
